It’s been a busy few weeks! The other day we visited office to discuss the work they do in helping returning citizens successfully exit the criminal justice system.
Pardons mean forgiveness. What many ppl tend to overlook is that a criminal record can follow you for life. Those who have repaid their debt to society should be freed of this burden. Do you agree?

We had the pleasure of shooting w/ Evan Figueroa-Vargas over the weekend for an advocacy piece on pardons.
After a bout with the criminal justice system, Evan has gone above and beyond in pursuit of turning around his life and the lives of others.
He acquired his GED, associates, bachelors, and in May his Master’s degree in social work. He maintained straight A’s throughout.
He now leverages both his education and lived experience to provide guidance to those struggling with addiction and homelessness.
At what point is a returning citizen’s debt to society repaid? Serving prison time? Completing parole and probation?
There comes a point where labeling a person “ex con” does more damage to society than it does good. That’s where pardons come into play.

Gentrification is a double edged sword. Neighborhood developments often coincide with the displacement of generational residents.
Wouldn’t it be best if we could improve neighborhoods without pricing residents out? 🤔

What comes to mind when you think of 19th & Jefferson?
spent much of her formative years there. In episode 3 she shares an experience in particular that shaped her way of thinking early in life.

Solo went to prison twice! At 16 years old he served 7 1/2 years for manslaughter. And after a short release he went back to prison to serve 12 years for bank robbery. But watch Solo's story and see how he transformed himself to live a life helping others
