Rizing Tide Foundation
Empowering a new generation of leaders in the PT profession through scholarships and community. 💪🏽🧡
Rizing Tide is a charitable foundation with scholarship and career development programs designed to empower a new generation of physical therapist leaders from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. Our vision is to broaden the reach, impact, and accessibility of physical therapy by advancing diversity and inclusiveness in the PT workforce. Founded in 2020 by Dr. Heidi Jannenga, physical therapist and co-founder of WebPT, Rizing Tide is working to build a better, more inclusive healthcare landscape for patients and providers alike.

The right support can shape an entire career.
For Dr. Maya Jones, PT, DPT, CLT, that support came through Rizing Tide. Maya made history as the first scholar to receive both a Crest Scholarship (2022) and a Surge Scholarship (2025), supporting her journey from PT school into specialized residency training.
In our latest scholar spotlight, Maya shares how mentorship helped her pursue a women's health residency, why representation and financial awareness matter for future PTs, and how she's now paying that support forward by mentoring the next generation.
As Maya puts it, "I had that support group, so I have to be willing to be that support for somebody else."

What makes you stand out in a physical therapy interview?
Landing an interview is only the first step. How you talk about your experience, the questions you ask, and what you learn about the employer shapes what happens next.
On Saturday, September 5, at 8 AM PDT / 11 AM EDT, Rizing Tide will host a PT Pod webinar featuring Lisa Hyder of Kure Practice Resource Partners focused on navigating the interview process.
Lisa will share what employers are looking for in an interview, how candidates can prepare, and what PTs should ask to figure out whether a role is right for them. If you’re preparing to enter the job market or want to sharpen your interviewing skills, this webinar is for you.
What’s one interview question you’ve never quite known how to answer?

Sports physical therapy is often associated with professional athletes and game-day injuries.
But as 2022 Rizing Tide Surge scholar Dr. Keairez Coleman, PT, DPT, SCS, CPSS, CSCS, shares in this video, the specialty is about so much more than sports. At its core, sports PT is helping people return to the activities that bring meaning to their lives, whether that's competing on the field, staying active with family, or simply getting back to a normal routine.
The specialty combines movement science, problem-solving, and patient relationships to help individuals recover, perform, and thrive.
Watch as Keairez shares a common misconception about sports physical therapy and what makes this area of practice so rewarding:
