🎃Our Honors Physics students took the concept of projectile motion beyond the classroom with an exciting hands-on pumpkin catapult challenge!
Students designed and constructed their own catapults, using experimental data to explore the physics behind their launches. They experimented with various launch angles to find out which would propel their pumpkins the farthest while calculating the launch velocity of their devices.
Then it was time for the Catapult Competition! The winning team managed to launch their plastic pumpkin an astounding 11.5 meters, achieving a calculated launch velocity of about 10 m/s!
Through designing, building, data collection, and applying physics principles, students experienced firsthand how concepts like projectile motion, velocity, and launch angle relate to real-world engineering challenges.
A bit of physics + a touch of engineering + a whole lot of teamwork = an amazing day of learning!

🪛Dr. Chen’s Physics class recently discovered that the best way to understand how something works is to take it apart first!
Students carefully disassembled a TI graphing calculator to find out what’s actually happening inside.
This hands-on activity gave students the opportunity to practice real engineering skills, disassembling a complex device, identifying its components, observing how the pieces fit together, and thinking about how those individual parts work together as a system.
Exploring, asking questions, and problem-solving makes learning meaningful and unforgettable!
