Fourteen years of DACA. This program has opened so many doors for my family and my clients. Each anniversary is bittersweet, on one hand it’s been a blessing, on the other hand, it’s a reminder of how fragile our status in the country is. This year is even more bitter because of all the Dreamers whose renewal has been unjustifiably delayed. To all those in limbo, and to all other immigrants that were left out of the program, you are not alone and our community will continue to advocate to lift your voices.

Some days stay with you. My client, who has been detained since the beginning of the year just won his immigration deportation case. He gets to go home to his partner and two children. I’ve seen first hand the challenges they faced these months but their FAITH was never shaken. Now a Lawful Permanent Resident, he will be able to provide his family the stability they need. I’m blessed to be a small part for this life altering event. There are tough days, but the wins, they live in you indefinitely.

Great event at ALAC yesterday discussing who should be able to become a citizen and how we need to do a better job at not polarizing who is a and is not, a “criminal immigrant”.
