🛑 Before you build, make sure your drainage plan protects your foundation.

One of the most important principles in residential construction is simple: **keep water moving AWAY from the house.

A roof can shed a surprising amount of water during a heavy storm. If that water is allowed to discharge directly next to the foundation, it can contribute to soil erosion, saturated soils, drainage problems, and—depending on site conditions—foundation issues.

A rock bed around the perimeter can help create a defined drainage zone, **but it’s only effective when the surrounding grading and drainage system are properly designed.

✔️ Grade the soil away from the foundation
✔️ Provide a clear path for roof runoff
✔️ Make sure drainage can handle heavy rainfall
✔️ Avoid creating low spots where water can collect
✔️ Consider extending the rock border around the home for a cleaner, lower-maintenance perimeter

And personally? We’re still team gutters + quality gutter guards. They provide a much more controlled way to collect and direct roof runoff.

Because when it comes to foundations, water management isn't landscaping—it’s part of the engineering!!

🚨 KNOW WHERE YOUR WATER SHUTOFF IS?

Because when a pipe suddenly springs a leak, you don’t want to be searching for it. 💦

A simple shutoff valve can let you stop water to an individual fixture quickly—potentially limiting the damage before a small leak becomes a major cleanup.

🔧 THE QUICK FIX:
Turn off the main water → relieve pressure → cut the supply line → install the appropriate shutoff valve → turn the water back on slowly → CHECK FOR LEAKS.

⏱️ Minutes to install. Potentially hours of cleanup avoided.

💡 SAVE THIS POST: Add shutoff valves to fixtures that don't already have them, and make sure everyone in your household knows where the main water shutoff is.
