Samantha Childs and Liz Vann manage outreach and operations with Cochise Harm Reduction. For them, a well-stocked food pantry is like a super power. ⚡
When they're able to first address the physical needs of a community member, it's much more likely that they'll be able to connect them to other services. Whether they need medical help due to drug use or they're navigating the criminal justice system, CHR believes that all humans deserve access to food and community care.
To accomplish that, not only do they partner with their local food bank, but they also work directly with local producers to source fresh foods for hot and cold meals. CHR team members like Samantha and Liz know firsthand how harm reduction efforts have to include nourishing food.
"It's not like we are going out into our community...we are our community. We are all one."
While CHR distributed 51,820 lbs of pantry items last year, they also helped reverse nearly 170 overdoses and connected over 2,000 people to lifesaving services like addiction recovery.
Not all heroes wear capes. 🦸 Some carry naloxone and a snack. Together, we can meet our community where they are to address diverse and unique needs for a . Thanks for being , Samantha and Liz, and everybody at Cochise Harm Reduction.

Let us paint a picture of how we end hunger together...
AzFBN has been partnering with the Hualapai Tribe as they lead anti-hunger work in their community through a Feeding America Natives Prepared grant. It's important that this work is fully driven by the Tribe: their priorities, their decisions, their community.
With this funding, they've invested in three different methods of storage, a refrigerated vehicle, a seed bank, and other projects they've identified as important for the food sovereignty and security of their community.
Now AzFBN gets to support the next piece. In partnership with St. Mary's Food Bank, we're helping the Tribe use their remaining grant funds to purchase ground beef from an Arizona rancher through AzFBN's Friends of the Farm program.
As part of National Hualapai Week, community members came together today to translate the beauty of this collaboration in many colors all across their new storage units.
This project was years in the making, included many partners, and engaged many programs within AzFBN. Still, the community shines through as that most important piece - the paint brush, the instrument. And for years to come, families will be fed because of this work.
