Beyond Autism
Beyond Autism is a non-profit day school serving individuals living with autism and related disorders. Why us? What does that mean?
First, we recognize our role as just one component in the life of the child. The unique perspective of the family and their ultimate knowledge about raising a child and living with autism are invaluable. We believe that only through collaboration, open communication, and a mutual respect can we honestly reach the goals of the student and the family. Secondly, we seek family input when determining the goals that will be worked on throughout the year. Academic, social, and life skills goals are established and agreed upon to ensure we are striking a balance between school and home life. Autism is a very complex disorder that affects each individual differently. We believe that you must view each child in a holistic manner. Simply put, in order to understand the individual, you must look at them as a whole person. Taking into consideration medical issues that accompany the diagnosis of autism is an important factor not to be overlooked. Whether you follow a particular diet or treatment options for your child, we understand and respect that the choice is yours. We will do our best to accommodate the needs of the child and the family. In addition, the Beyond Autism team is passionate about supporting the family and building a community. We strive to create a warm and supportive environment that our families will experience through parent trainings and community outreach. To foster this culture, every team member and family will belong to the advisory committee here at Beyond Autism. Our ultimate goal is to create a community of families and team members that grow the vision of Beyond Autism into the future.

Thank you, UMOM New Day Centers, for welcoming us to volunteer in the Clothing Closet! 💙 Our students practiced valuable vocational skills by organizing empty hangers, taking inventory, bringing in donated clothing, and hanging items for families in the community.
We had such a great time and feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a supportive community! 🫶

💙 Meet Kelly, our new Occupational Therapist at Beyond Autism!
Kelly has been part of the Beyond Autism family since 2014, starting as one of the original 3 staff members. She brings extensive experience as a Doctor of Occupational Therapy, specializing in sensory processing, neurodevelopmental intervention, and supporting individuals with Autism across the lifespan. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the Beyond Autism team full-time in 2026!
“I am so excited to have the addition of the sensory/OT clinic as another resource to support our student’s participation. This space offers more opportunities for movement and sensory experiences for our students, particularly higher impact movement and swinging opportunities that many of our students need and will benefit from. Sensory rooms, used with appropriate guidance, have been shown to significantly increase student focus and attention, as well as decrease sensory overload/dysregulation, leading to improved behavior and reduced anxiety.
I am a sensory trained therapist with years of experience implementing sensory interventions and I can’t wait to work with students in this space. I look forward to seeing how this additional resource benefits the students here at BA!” 💙 -Kelly Maki OTD, OTR/L
