Cheap quarter minus base material sits on top of the ground, holds water like a sponge, and turns into a slurry that takes forever to dry. We use ABC rock base because it compacts hard, stays workable, and drains properly so your pavers don't sink down the road.

Some contractors take 3 weeks just to send you a quote. We wheelbarrowed 30 tons out a 4-foot side gate, survived a rainstorm, and built this entire setup in 3.5 days flat.
We installed travertine walkways and patio steppers to max out the outdoor living space without making it feel like a giant hot oven. Then we brought in real natural grass for the middle. Fake turf sounds easy until it hits 160 degrees in the summer, but real grass actually keeps the yard cool so you can actually enjoy a cold drink while the kids play tag.

Most contractors don't give a damn about how travertine pattern cuts affect long-term durability on a side yard walkway.
Travertine is naturally softer than concrete pavers. If a crew fills side paths with tiny cut pieces, those small tiles will crack the second you drag a heavy trash bin over them. We use full 1x1 travertine tiles centered along the walkway so the stone actually holds up to daily use.
