Self Care space for Social Workers & heart centered Boss ladies. Mental Rest, Clarity & push u need.
It’s Tuesday morning.
She’s sitting in the car outside of work with about seven minutes before she needs to walk in.
Coffee beside her.
Badge in her purse.
Phone already buzzing.
Somebody needs something.
Of course they do.
She’s the dependable one.
The woman who knows how to walk into a room carrying her own stuff and still ask everybody else, *“You good?”*
But this morning, before she opens that car door, there’s another voice talking.
You should be doing more.
You’re behind.
Why haven’t you figured this out yet?
Just push through.
And because she's a helper, she knows exactly what she would say if another woman told her she was talking to herself like that.
She'd encourage her.
Remind her how far she's come.
Tell her to give herself some grace.
Maybe even pray for her before they got off the phone.
Sis…can some of that care belong to YOU this morning?
Before you walk into work today, try something different.
Don't spend your drive rehearsing everything that's wrong.
Don't make somebody else's emergency your assignment before you even clock in.
Don't measure your entire life by what hasn't happened yet.
Sit there for one more minute.
Put your hand on your heart.
And ask:
“How do I want to show up for ME today?”
Maybe today you take your lunch.
Maybe you don't explain your “no” five different ways.
Maybe you celebrate the work you actually finished instead of obsessing over what remains.
Maybe you stop calling yourself lazy when you're tired.
Maybe you finally admit:
I deserve the same compassion I keep handing everybody else.
You can be the helper.
The strong one.
The wounded healer.
The woman everybody calls.
And still become a safe place for yourself.
That's part of the inner work too.
If that inner critic has had the microphone long enough, I created a short guide to help you begin challenging those thoughts and paying attention to what's happening on the inside.
It's available for a small donation—because we're investing in our inner work, not just saving another post we'll never come back to.
👇 Download your copy below and give yourself a few quiet minutes to begin.

Now go have yourself a GOOD Tuesday.
Not because everything is perfect.
Because you're learning how to stop abandoning yourself while you take care of everybody else. 💛

Before you get out of that bed and start doing for everybody else this Saturday… ☀️
When was the last time YOU were somewhere on your own list?
Not after everybody else was okay.
Not after work, church, family and responsibilities.
YOU.
I’ve spent years helping people navigate difficult transitions and figure out what comes next.
And one thing I’ve learned?
Sometimes the hardest transition isn’t leaving a job, ending a relationship, grieving a loss or starting over.
Sometimes it’s learning who you are when you stop being everything to everybody.
So before Saturday gets busy, ask yourself:
What do I need today?
Sometimes the first step isn’t figuring everything out.
It’s giving yourself permission to PAUSE long enough to hear yourself again.
I’m entering a new season of my work helping people do exactly that. More on that later. ❤️
For now, tell me:
What transition are YOU navigating?
Career • Relationship • Grief • Family • Identity • Something else?
Drop ONE word. 👇🏾

Church Notes: Don't judge my hood church notes… (I gotta make it make sense for me). 😂🙏🏾
Today's Word: DON'T CRASH OUT. KEEP DIGGING.
📖 Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good because at the proper time, we'll reap if we don't give up.
My translation: You can get tired. You can rest. You can admit this is HARD. Just don't let tired make decisions for you.
Minister Chris Pennywell laid down some considerations today around the pain of the process vs. the pain of regret and what happens when God's timing feels entirely too slow.
He took us to Abraham and Sarah.
God promised them a son, but they had been WAITING. Sarah eventually was basically like, “Look, we've been waiting too long. Go make a baby with Hagar.”😩😂
Now Sarah is WAY better than me, but listen… we don't judge, we learn.😂
Hagar gave birth to Ishmael. God loved and cared for Hagar and Ishmael, but Isaac was the child God promised Abraham and Sarah.
And when Sarah thought she was too old and it was too late, God still gave her Isaac.
🔥 God's timing feeling slow doesn't mean God forgot what He said.
That'll preach in a few places:
• Career isn't moving fast enough.
• That relationship is crooked, but we're trying to force it straight. 😂
• Somebody hurt us and we're waiting on their karma because secretly we want FRONT ROW SEATS. 👀🍿
• And for our family right now… GRIEF!! urghhhhh!!
We're grieving someone we deeply love, and I'm learning:
PAIN desires a safe place to go.
When somebody dies, the love you have for them doesn't die. That love starts scanning like, “Where do I put all of this now?”
Meanwhile sadness, anger, guilt, questions and coulda-woulda-shoulda are competing for space.
And Crash Out will try to convince you it's a safe place for your pain. It isn't.
Grief isn't only death either. We grieve relationships, dreams, careers, friendships, seasons and versions of life we thought we'd have.
So right now, I'm giving my pain safe places to land:
• I tell the truth about my emotions. Angry, sad, confused—whatever shows up, I acknowledge it. (I don't pretend I go to prayer first because sometimes I do and sometimes I don't but grateful for my prayer circle who prays me through when I can't seem to).
• I write. I've journaled since I was a kid. Sometimes the page can hold what my mouth isn't ready to say.
• I lean on a prayer partner. We call and text with real, raw check-ins. Not every day, not forced—as needed. We're both grieving, so we respect each other's process while knowing, when you need me, I'm here.
• I fill my cup with music that feeds my spirit. Sometimes my eyes are too blurry to read the Word, but the Word hidden in my heart comes alive through a song.
• And sometimes? I sleep like a newborn. 😂 Because resting isn't quitting.
Last night I combined writing and music and wrote a song while processing this season. ❤️
🎶 Here's one I wrote last night:

Whatever you're navigating—grief, waiting, relationships, purpose or just being TIRED:
Don't force what doesn't fit.
Don't make permanent decisions from temporary pain.
Give your pain somewhere safe to land.
Rest when you need to.
And when you can…
KEEP DIGGING. ❤️

THIS is what legacy looks like to me. ❤️
I'm resting, reflecting and recovering.
A few weeks ago, we laid a good friend to rest.
And now, while I'm still processing that loss, my family is walking through the sudden death of my nephew — with questions we still don't have answers to.
It's a lot.
And most of my life, one of the ways I've healed has been by emptying my thoughts onto paper.
AKA… journaling.
Sometimes what comes out is beautiful.
Sometimes it's messy.
Sometimes it's anger.
Sometimes it's revelation.
Sometimes I don't even know what I'm feeling until I see the words sitting in front of me.
So that's where I am right now.
I'm not writing from a place of having everything figured out.
I'm writing while resting, reflecting, grieving, recovering and paying attention.
Paying attention to life.
To people.
To relationships.
To what we spend our energy chasing.
To who really shows up.
To what remains when somebody we love is suddenly no longer physically here.
And especially…
to legacy.
This picture hit differently today.
That's my friend Celi and me holding hands, praying alongside our babies and other young people we pulled in to serve with us on a Saturday morning.
We were social workers.
We were mothers raising babies.
We had responsibilities, bills, problems and our own lives to manage.
But we wanted our children to understand something:
Life cannot always be about YOU.
Sometimes you get up on a Saturday morning and go feed somebody who's hungry.
Sometimes you serve people who can do absolutely NOTHING for you in return.
Sometimes your children need to SEE you value people whom society has decided aren't valuable.
And sometimes the lesson isn't taught at the kitchen table.
Sometimes you have to take them with you.
And now I look at this picture differently.
Those babies are GROWN.
My friend is no longer physically here.
And suddenly an ordinary Saturday from years ago has become a piece of her legacy.
That'll preach all by itself. ❤️
Because grief is teaching me that legacy isn't the flowers.
It's not the funeral program.
It's not how beautifully somebody decorates a church.
And it definitely isn't who suddenly becomes your best friend on Facebook after you die.
Legacy is the evidence that you were HERE.
Who did you love?
Who did you help?
Who did you teach?
Who saw God differently because they encountered you?
What did your children watch you do repeatedly?
Whose life became a little easier because you existed?
That's legacy.
And as I journal through this season, I keep coming back to one question:
If the people I love had to tell the story of my life using only what they WATCHED me do — not what I said I believed — what story would they tell?
Whew.
That's the kind of question grief will make you ask.
And maybe that's part of what this season of resting, reflecting and recovering is doing in me.
Reminding me that while I'm still here, I get to keep writing the answer.
Not just on paper.
With my life. ❤️

Back-to-school shouldn’t mean back to stress, fighting over homework, behavior calls, confusing IEP meetings, and parents trying to hold EVERYTHING together.

“Does my child learn differently than the way they’re being taught?”
“What am I supposed to ask for in an IEP meeting?”
“How do I advocate for my child without feeling intimidated?”
“And how do I manage all of THIS without burning myself out?”
This conversation is for you.

Happy Friday! ☀️
Today I watched a woman complain that the bathroom line was too long. Once I realized what was happening, I simply walked to one of the four other bathrooms in the building.
I even reminded her there were other options, but she wasn't interested in a solution. She preferred to stay in the long line and keep complaining.
It reminded me that some people become so comfortable with limitations that they reject opportunities standing right in front of them. Complaining becomes part of their routine—not because they have no options, but because they've stopped looking for them.
As you head into the weekend, don't exhaust yourself trying to rescue people who are committed to their limitations. Offer a solution once. If they choose the line over the open door, let them.
Protect your peace. Keep walking toward the doors God has already opened for you. 🙏🏾
💬 Weekend check-in:
Have you ever realized you were standing in a "long line" in life when God had already provided another door? What helped you finally move?
Let's encourage somebody in the comments. ❤️

The Power of a Made-Up Mind
There comes a moment when your breakthrough is no longer waiting on better circumstances—it's waiting on a made-up mind.
A made-up mind says:
- I will trust God even when I don't understand.
- I will forgive, even when it's hard.
- I will obey, even when it costs me.
- I will keep showing up, even when I don't see immediate results.
The enemy loves a double-minded believer because confusion delays purpose. But when your mind is settled on God's promises, fear loses its grip, distractions lose their power, and excuses lose their voice.
Daniel made up his mind not to compromise. Ruth made up her mind to follow Naomi. Jesus "set His face" toward Jerusalem, determined to fulfill the Father's will. Every one of them changed history because they first settled the matter in their heart.
Today, don't wait until you feel stronger. Make up your mind to trust God now. Feelings will catch up with faith.
Scripture: "Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." — 1 Corinthians 15:58
Prayer: Lord, give me a made-up mind. Help me to stand firm when life tries to shake me. Let my decisions be rooted in Your truth, not my emotions. In Jesus' name, amen.
During these rough times do me a favor tag, share and like this post if it helped out ...

☀️ Saturday Morning Reflection
This morning, I'm reminded that some victories can't be measured by how long we live, but by the prayers God allows us to see fulfilled. 💙
I had a dear friend who was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. The prognosis wasn't good. Yet she chose faith over fear, laughter over despair, and courage over giving up.
Her prayer was simple but profound:
"Lord, let me live to see my Fab 4 graduate."
At the time of her diagnosis, each of her children was stepping into a new chapter—finishing high school, graduating college, and building lives that would create a new legacy for generations to come.
God honored that prayer.
Just last month, she so proudly witnessed her son graduate from UCLA. She witnessed another miracle and another promise fulfilled. ❤️
Beyond being an incredible mother, she faithfully served our community for many years as a social worker, walking alongside families through some of their hardest moments. Long before it was a profession, serving people was simply who she was.
This week, nearly a month after that beautiful milestone, God gave her rest.
My heart breaks for her Fab 4. The same season that brought some of life's greatest celebrations now carries one of its deepest losses. Yet what a gift they were given—to have their mother's unwavering faith, encouragement, and love cheering them on until the very end.
As I reflect this Saturday, the little things that try to steal my joy don't seem nearly as heavy. Her life reminds me to keep my eyes on eternity, because in the end, the things we often worry about won't matter nearly as much as the way we loved, served, forgave, and pointed others toward hope.
Life Application: ❤️
Take the trip.
Make the phone call.
Forgive.
Celebrate your people while they're here.
Tell someone you're proud of them.
Don't postpone joy waiting for "someday."
Life is fragile, but the love we pour into others becomes the legacy that outlives us.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
May we all live in a way that, when our race is finished, those we leave behind know they were deeply loved. 🙏
