Sometimes it begins much earlier, with paying attention to what is happening inside us, noticing when a difficult season is becoming a pattern and being willing to ask for help.

The Struggle No One Could See
Except God.

Depression can hide behind a smile, a routine, or simply getting through the day. But God sees what others may miss.

When Laura came to the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, she needed medical care, but she was also carrying a deep emotional struggle that had left her overwhelmed and without many places to turn.

At the Clinic, she found people who took time to listen and pray with her. Today, she describes the Clinic as a place where she feels like family and leaves her appointments with peace in her heart.

Laura’s story is a reminder that some of the greatest needs a person carries may never appear on a medical chart.

Caring Across Languages

Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and it gives us an opportunity to celebrate the people and cultures that are such an important part of the Clinic's community.

Every day, Spanish-speaking patients and families place their trust in our team. Being able to explain what hurts, ask questions and understand what comes next can make an unfamiliar healthcare visit feel much more personal and reassuring.

Through bilingual staff, interpreters and volunteers, we work to make sure language does not become a barrier to compassionate care.

Scripture gives us a beautiful picture of God’s people as “every nation, tribe, people and language” gathered before Him. — Revelation 7:9

We are grateful for the many cultures represented within The Neighborhood Christian Clinic family and for the people who help every patient feel welcomed and understood.

Meet Andy!

Andy serves as the Clinic’s Volunteer Supervisor and is also a Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI). In addition to supporting our volunteers, he helps patients feel heard and understood during their care.

For a patient trying to explain what hurts or understand what comes next, having Andy there can bring a sense of comfort and connection. He helps make sure language doesn’t stand in the way of a patient feeling known and cared for.

We’re grateful for the kindness Andy brings to the Clinic and for the many ways he helps create a welcoming experience for both patients and volunteers.

More than 100 hours of volunteering. A calling taking shape. And now - dental school.

When Judah Frazier first came to The Neighborhood Christian Clinic, he was looking for an opportunity to serve and gain experience in dentistry. What he found was much more.

Working alongside the Clinic's dental team gave Judah hands-on experience, mentorship and a firsthand look at what it means to treat every patient with dignity and compassion.

"Every patient was treated the exact same way," Judah shared. "The people here really care about the patients, and it's apparent in everything they do."

Now Judah is beginning his next chapter at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. We're grateful to have been one small part of his journey - and excited to see how God continues to use him through dentistry.

Sometimes a check-up reveals more than anyone expected.

When Sarah came to the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, she thought she simply needed a routine check-up - and maybe a dental exam.

But as her visit unfolded, so did her story. Sarah had been carrying anxiety and loneliness for a long time. Because the Clinic cares for the whole person, she was able to receive medical care, dental care and the opportunity to speak privately with a behavioral health counselor.

And before she left, Sarah said something else: "I'm not really sure what I believe about God, but I wouldn't mind if you prayed for me." So we did.

This is Whole Person Care - seeing and caring for the person behind the symptoms.

A patient is more than a diagnosis.

There may be a physical need that brought someone through our doors - but there may also be anxiety, grief, financial stress, loneliness or questions about faith that never appear on a medical chart.

At the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, we care for the body, mind and spirit.

That means providing quality medical, dental and behavioral healthcare while taking the time to listen, treat each person with dignity and, when welcomed, offer prayer and the hope of Jesus.

Please pray for our patients — that they would experience healing, dignity and hope.

Pray also for our staff and volunteers as they listen, care and walk alongside each person who comes through our doors. Ask God to give them wisdom and opportunities to reflect the love of Christ in ways that meet people where they are.
