Because every ring has a job and the second ring might be doing more than you think.

Its primary role isn’t just compression sealing. It’s also a key part of oil control. Think of it as the “backup buddy” of the ring pack: helping manage blow by that gets past the top ring while catching oil the oil ring leaves behind.

Bore finish plays a critical role in creating the seal between the cylinder wall and the piston rings and there’s no one size fits all solution. Different engines, ring packages, materials, and applications can all require a different approach to cylinder finishing.
