West Texas travel center chain to build first DFW location

A West Texas chain is breaking into the North Texas market, and Pilot Point will be its first non-Permian Basin spot.

Tarzan & Jane Travel Centers were started by brothers Seth and Zach Covington, and their business partner Anthony Taylor will be the face of the North Texas store 'where we are planting our flag in the DFW area.'

Families tooled around Downtown Aubrey on Saturday, taking in the rows of classic automobiles, muscle cars and unusual vehicles lining Main Street and beyond.

The point of the second annual Main Street Motor Fest, Aubrey Senior Events Coordinator Rodney Cagle said, is to bring people together and even to help inspire a love of those vehicles in the next generation.

'That has been a very cool part—the amount of full families that are here,' he said.

Officer Rachel Jonas returned to the Krugerville Police Department with a heartfelt welcome after a year away.

“I can't tell you how much it means to me to have her back,” KVPD Chief Stoney Ward said. “When she left, we hated to see her go, but she went and tested the waters out in [the] private sector, and now she's back. And I, on behalf of myself and my staff, are ecstatic to have [Rachel] back.”

Ward swore her in, and her husband, Caleb Jonas, pinned her badge.

Tioga Elementary School student and one of the Ranch Cities’ brightest young sports stars, Talia Horton, took the first steps of her athletic career this summer, winning gold at the 2026 Mac Vault Summer National Championships pole vaulting competition July 24.

Talia blazed her way down the ramp for the first time this season, beginning her training this spring and culminating with her competing at the national- level event in Navasota, where she set a new personal record of 4-feet-6-inches to finish in first.

“I’m absolutely floored at how much progress she’s made in such a short period of time,” Talia’s father and coach, Troy Horton, said. “When she started on May 4th, she could barely swing herself up onto the landing pad, to now where she can clear a crossbar that’s over her head is nothing short of amazing.”

It was a happy birthday indeed for Thomas Daniels on Monday morning.

He got to celebrate the morning with the groundbreaking for the Capital Gainz complex, which will soon be the home of Capital Plumbing, Capital Mechanics and a lease center.

'It's a dream come true,' he said. 'We always wanted to get to a size where we'd have to have our own building, have to have our own place.'

Dean Construction is the company that is going to bring the Aubrey Sports Complex to life.

That decision was made that the July 23 Aubrey City Council meeting, where the company's vice president and project manager, Tyler Firebaugh, explained the company's passion for parks.

'There's a whole bunch of people that you could have chosen for this, and we're honored to be the ones standing up here behind this mic,' he said to the mayor and council. '... Who are we? We are Dean Construction. We build parks. That's the only thing that we do. That's what we focus on over the past 40 years.'

Providence Automotive celebrated a few major milestones on Saturday at its grand reopening.

The shop celebrated its seventh birthday and the expansion of its facilities, all without having to move locations.

“It happened very serendipitously that the gentleman that was in this shop wanted to move into the shop that had air conditioning over there,” Executive Manager Shannon Fasick said. “So, we were able to get this original shop [and] now have both of the big buildings.”
