Starting the morning the right way. ☕🍩
Safety meeting first, then it’s time to begin removing the west wall—one brick at a time. Every step is carefully planned to preserve as much history as possible.
This is the moment we’ve been preparing for.
After weeks of installing structural shoring to safely support the building, our team has completed the final step before the historic west wall can be carefully removed and rebuilt.
The roof has now been detached from the wall, and a temporary waterproof barrier has been installed to protect the building while restoration continues.

Picture of the Week!
This elegant door knocker is one of the many original architectural details found at the historic Farmers & Merchants Bank. Designed with a classical face inspired by Greek and Roman art, decorative knockers like this were popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Beyond welcoming visitors, they reflected craftsmanship, strength, and sophistication—qualities many banks wanted to convey.
Fun Fact Friday!
More than a century ago, people climbed these very stairs for a reason that might surprise you. The second floor of the historic Farmers & Merchants Bank wasn’t just office space—it was home to Dr. W.H. Hawley’s office, where he cared for patients in the early 1900s.
Imagine making your way up these same steps to visit your doctor.
Today, we’re carefully preserving that history as we restore the building for its next chapter.

Why can’t they just tear the wall down?
Because this isn’t just another construction project—it’s historic restoration.
Before the original west wall can be carefully rebuilt, it must first be supported with a temporary system called shoring. These massive beams and braces hold the building securely in place, allowing crews to safely remove and restore the wall without risking damage to the historic structure.
It may not be the most noticeable part of the project, but it’s one of the most important.
Every great restoration starts with a strong foundation—and sometimes, that means protecting history before rebuilding it.

Have you ever seen a building supported like this before?
In Part 2 of our conversation with Supervisor Joel Curry, we asked him a simple question:
What’s your favorite part about your job?

Progress you can see! Here’s a look at the Before and After of the west wall after the shoring was applied. The west wall is standing strong! Temporary shoring is now in place, ensuring the building stays secure as restoration continues.
