Say hello to Addilyn, our new CTE Work-Based learning intern from Pittsburg High School culinary program.

After doing a mock interview, learning the ins and outs of daily operations at TOAST and working on her resume, we dove head first into the kitchen.

As part of our SPREAD THE L❤️AF grant from the USDA & KDA, we pledged to develop new value added foods utilizing From the Land of Kansas grown produce. Since it's APPLE 🍎 season and we have access to some amazing apples thanks to Misty Morning Farms (who obtained these apples from South Baldwin Farms) we wanted to make Apple Butter. We got to work prepping & doing test batches. Addi had the opportunity to work on knife skills, scaling recipes & problem solving as well as taste testing & modifying a recipe to fit the flavor profile we want for our signature Apple Butter. And I gotta say- it's DELICIOUS! 😋

Next up- she'll learn proper canning, product testing, labeling & marketing. All while following state regulations & standards. One day this product will be for sale on our Toast Market shelf available to the public.

We're looking forward to the next steps with Addi. Stay tuned to see what we do next.
