My first baby turns 11 today 🥹
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Boomer has lived through so much with us. We were sophomores in college when Brennen brought him home (and almost took him back because he cried the whole way), and I’m just forever grateful he’s ours. He loves being as close as possible to his favorite humans, eating dirt in the backyard, having wrestling matches with dad & Penn, and being the main character (and of course whining when that isn’t happening). He is the most patient and goofy and stubborn boy there is and I feel like the luckiest mom to celebrate year 11 with him. So much of watching him age is bittersweet, but it’s also such a great privilege.

What we learned taking our baby on vacay 🏖️
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Something people love to do in many situations, but especially when you have kids, is make it sound like everything is impossible when you have them. Oh you enjoy traveling? Forget that when you have kids! Honestly that mindset makes me really sad. Do trips look different when it was just my husband and I versus now taking our baby? Of course. But it was still so fun and we both had downtime, it just looks a little different these days. Maybe having dogs prepared me, because the reality is we haven’t been able to be completely spontaneous since getting Boomer our sophomore year of college. We have always had to plan ahead to make sure everyone is taken care of—so yes, it takes more planning but it’s totally doable!

My beach babes 🌊
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is fall in our house (and hearts), but this beach trip to end the summer was too good not to share about. Did we drive 9+ hours with a baby so we could take our dogs? Of course, because these moments are worth it. As excited as I was to watch my baby experience the beach for the first time, I really planned this trip for the dogs, Boomer specifically. He will somehow be 11 this weekend, and I know long trips like this won’t be doable much longer for him. I wanted him to have a piece of his happy place and us to all have this memory together. Boomer showed his age this trip, which is really bittersweet, but my heart was so happy watching him and Penn have so much fun 🥹

And just like that, the most perfect, silly, stubborn and sweet baby is O N E 🥹

I could write a novel about how beautiful this first year of parenthood and watching him grow has been, but I’ll try to keep it short. Every day is a pinch me moment that I get to wake up and be his mom. He completes our little family in the most joyous ways, and has the cutest toothy smile I’ve ever seen. I’m forever grateful life worked out this way. Happy birthday buddy, I can’t wait for all that’s to come 🎂

A much needed week away with our little family 🌊

It’s a really cool experience visiting the same place in different seasons of life. The first time we went to the Outer Banks, we were juniors in college and not even engaged yet. The next time was a few years later and we took Boomer for his first big vacation. Then in 2020 while living in NC we traveled with both dogs in tow right before we got married. Fast forward to this week that we got to share with the same two pups and our double rainbow baby, almost 6 years into marriage.   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
