Oh my god Bruno Kramm ...you were just sitting next to me on the panel
@ the DARK FORCE just a few months ago.
You looked better than ever and you were very nice and intelligent as always.
You guys created one of the few interesting internationally known German bands.
You will be missed my friend Gone too soon.
My condolences to your family my friend.

21-year-old Colin Roach died of a gunshot wound in Stoke Newington Police Station in January 1983.

Police ruled it a su***de amidst suspicions of a cover-up, and the story became a tipping point for protests against police brutality in the U.K. Roach was mentioned in the lyrics of songs like “Bright Lights” by the Specials and “License Fi Kill” by Linton Kwesi Johnson. I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, the 1990 album that launched Irish singer Sinead O’Connor to superstardom, was released with a photo on the inner sleeve of Roach’s family protesting his death, with the caption “God’s place is the world, but the world is not God’s place.”

“England’s not the mythical land of Madame George and roses / It’s the home of police who kill black boys on mopeds,” O’Connor sang on the album’s fifth track, reserving some of the song’s harshest words for Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. O’Connor’s most controversial gestures of activism, including ripping up a photo of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in 1992, were still ahead of her, but she was already aware of the backlash she courted by speaking out against injustice. “These are dangerous days / To say what you feel is to dig your own grave,” she sang on “Black Boys on Mopeds.”

Welsh musician Karl Wallinger began working with Sinead O’Connor in the mid-’80s, around the time he left the Waterboys and formed his own band, World Party, and he was credited as an arranger on “Black Boys on Mopeds.” Wallinger died in 2024, just eight months after O’Connor’s passing. The American band Chevelle covered “Black Boys” in 2002, and the Irish band Fontaines D.C. covered it earlier this year for War Child’s charity compilation Help(2).

Three bonus Sinead O'Connor essential deep cuts:
- "Drink Before the War"
- "Emma's Song"
- "Your Green Jacket"

🟩🟩🟩 Memories of Ray Charles, Sara McLaughlin, Bruce Hornsby, Vanessa Carlton, and Ben Folds on grand pianos on Metropol's stage at different occasions. I always loved lighting up those shiney strings in grand pianos. Fond memories of incredible talent that I felt I was not the right person to be the one on lights because I was so green at the time learning and didn't know the songs or even have a set list to follow along with some sort of idea where we were going. But my passion for lighting and live music really pulled me through for creativity at times.
Three rules I learned to live by in those days are still relevant today.
1. Less is More
2. Timing is everything.
3. Darkness is an effect.

Have A Safe Labor Day weekend, everyone!
You are welcome to dance.

Gloria taught generations of women that our voices mattered — that equality wasn’t something we should have to ask permission for.

I was 15 when I first saw her talking about women’s rights, and it stayed with me. I remember listening to her and feeling like someone was finally saying out loud what so many of us felt but didn’t yet have the words for. She helped me understand that being a woman could mean standing up, speaking out, and bringing other women with you. Gloria didn’t just change the conversation; she changed what so many of us believed was possible. I’ll always be grateful for her courage, her friendship, and the road she helped make for all of us.

Gloria never stopped showing up. For women, for equality, for people whose voices weren’t being heard. She was fierce, funny, generous, and always moving us forward.

I’m going to miss her. I’m so grateful I got to know her, and so grateful for everything she gave all of us.

Thank you Gloria ❤️
