In this course, participants will explore ways to create inclusive learning environments, strengthen partnerships with families, and promote positive behavior while reducing disparities in discipline practices. Learn how to support all children, including those with or at risk for developmental delays and disabilities, through responsive, relationship-based approaches that foster belonging, growth, and success.

Last month, Trying Together named Julie Thumma, the resource development specialist at Inc., as its July advocate of the month.

Ashley Harland, Trying Together’s early childhood policy manager, said she met Thumma through her role at the Butler Early Care and Education Council.

“Julie gets it,” Harland said. “She understands the critical role of early childhood education (ECE) in the life of a child; she knows that parents rely on high-quality ECE; and she is devoted to elevating the professionals that work in ECE.”

From Julie: “Every step along the way has reinforced my belief that the earliest years of a child’s life are among the most important – and that the people who care for and educate young children deserve to be supported, valued, and connected,” she said.

Trying Together Names Lifesteps’ Resource Development Specialist as July Advocate of the Month Trying Together has selected Julie Thumma, the resource development specialist at Lifesteps in Butler, as its July advocate of the month.

Beaver County - we’re in your neighborhood! Trying Together is at the Neighborhood North: Museum of Play for the first of our in-person expanded professional development opportunities we’ll be holding throughout Southwestern PA over the next year.

🚌 Join the Homewood Early Learning Hub & Family Center for a Back-to-School Open House on Friday, August 21st!

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Light snacks will be provided during the afternoon and evening sessions, and the following giveaway items will be available (while supplies last):
• School supplies
• Children’s activities
• Information from local pre-k or school providers about enrollment and the importance of early childhood education

Additionally, Community Alliance Program students from the Pitt School of Medicine will visit at 3 p.m. to host a discussion on postpartum care, which will include free blood pressure screenings and additional giveaways.

On August 9, Trying Together will be at the Washington Wild Things game alongside SmartKids Child Care & Learning Center-Washington with fun activities for kids, prizes to win, and resources to share. We'd love for you to join us!

⚾ Tickets are only $11.50 for ages 13 and up - and tickets for children ages 12 and under are FREE and include a meal voucher!

⚾ 50% of tickets sales are donated back to Trying Together and SmartKids.

⚾ It will be a great event for families - the game starts at 4:05, and there will be plenty of activities for children, including multiple inflatables.

The first session, "Everyday Interactions Matter," will focus on how to observe and reflect upon powerful moments of growing, sharing, learning, and belonging in the ordinary, everyday interactions they share with young children. The second session, "Positive Guidance Strategies to Facilitate Social and Emotional Development," offers information about preventative strategies to address “challenging” behaviors.
