Mayfly Market & Deli has settled right in at their new location at The Garden on North Ave!

The bigger space has meant more room for local favorites like Pittsburgh Pickle Company and Goat Rodeo Cheese, a full deli counter for their sandwiches and soups, and plenty of owner Ann Gilligan's own dairy-free sorbet.

Ever wonder where Allegheny Branch House Lofts got its name?

Long before it was home to 36 apartments, the North Side building served as a "Branch House" of the International Harvester Company, once one of the country's largest farm equipment makers.

From 1902 until 1959, local farmers and customers came to Allegheny Branch House Lofts for showroom visits and service on their equipment, with its own railroad siding out back for deliveries.

These days the flatiron shaped building holds apartments instead of tractors, though residents don't have to look far for a reminder of that history because there's a 1946 International Harvester Farmall Model H tractor on display in the community lounge to pay tribute!

With back to school season here, we're thinking about the two Q Development properties that used to be schools and are now home to our residents.

Bayard School Lofts in Lawrenceville dates back to 1874, making it one of Pittsburgh's oldest surviving school buildings, and it taught students until 1939 before it became a warehouse and food processing plant for a period of time before being vacant for many years before the Q team took it on.

Lofts of Mt. Washington has its own rich story too, serving as Prospect School from 1931 to 2006 before. A.M. Rodriguez redeveloped the building in 2014 and the Q team joined the project in 2020.

Today both buildings hold homes, with details like Bayard's handmade corbels and original oversized windows and Mt. Washington's art deco character that is still very much intact.

Lofts of Mt Washington (formerly Prospect School) was built in the 1930s, and the Art Deco style architecture is still as stunning and prominent as ever. As history buffs and architecture enthusiasts, we're glad so much of the original character of this building has been preserved in its new life.
