Powerful words from Chief Ed Mann during his speech at the Southside Fire Company in Riverside, PA, last evening:
"Twenty-five years ago, evil sought to divide and destroy. Instead, America responded with courage, sacrifice, compassion, and unity. Our obligation today is not simply to remember September 11th, but to ensure its lessons live on through the way we serve, care for one another, and answer the call when duty requires it."

Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed our history. Today, we pause to solemnly honor the innocent lives lost and the extraordinary bravery of the responders who answered the call in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We also carry a sobering reality: in the decades since, more lives have tragically been lost to the enduring after-effects of 9/11 than perished on that single day. The sacrifice of our emergency personnel extends far beyond those initial moments of crisis, leaving a legacy that remains with us always.
We are continually reminded of the profound selflessness woven into the emergency services community. We are immensely grateful for all who served our country during that tragic day, including our colleague, Chief Ed Mann, who was the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner on 9/11/2001 and responded to the Flight 93 crash.
Ed’s lifelong commitment—alongside countless others who answered the call—reflects the incredible courage and resilience that defines first responders everywhere. Today, and always, we remember and honor them all.
