We fed Ash some recreated pitches with high RPMs @ varying velocity tonight. Why?

Spin creates a pressure differential generating a force perpendicular to the flight path. The magnitude of this force scales with spin rate. The Higher the RPM, the larger deviation from a standard offering. This along with release points and other variables like velocity… are what make elite pitchers elite.

So after struggling to hit what we were feeding her, we stopped the lesson and talked about picking a half and picking a speed. Because when you face elite pitchers- you cannot sit there and try to defend everything. That will lead to suboptimal power recruitment and sequencing.
We came up with a scouting report based on 2 Power 4 pitchers we have data on. We pre-determined a plan (or approach) that narrowed what Ashley was looking for so that she could be decisive and aggressive on the pitches she handles best. Trying to hit everything usually leads to defensive swings and weak contact. Elite approaches are selective early and expand only when necessary.

We used two examples. One was Dave Parker’s approach of sitting fastball first pitch / curveball second pitch in certain locations at specific parts of the season ( 📖 his autobiography “The Cobra”)

📺Second example was much more familiar to Ashley. Jordan Woolery sitting change up against Nijaree Canady in the 2026 World Series. First Pitch center cut fastball- she took it (and smiled )! The announcers suggested that was her chance & she missed it. That’s not why she smiled 😉…Second pitch was the change up She was waiting for: Tie ball game. JWoo had a plan. She knew Canady would throw her a change up at some point and she was gonna sit on it. Even if it meant letting center cut fast balls go by.

With that story told- Ash smiled and we gave her speeds and locations to sit on, and she attacked where her strengths were … and she hit the ball hard 🤷‍♂️

Finding creative ways to sequence the leg pulling everything above it is the #1 foundational principle at PVS (Girls) . Using the front side to help with timing is a close second (Nate)

The Front side directly impacts what the backside will do and when it will do it.

We’ve been playing around with some ideas about addressing this outside the box and we’re starting to get somewhere

Very Emotional Night

10 years is a long time. Nobody has taken more swings at PVS. No one has been here longer. Today was the final session with … he heads off to college this week!!!! His big sister would go on to change softball in western Pennsylvania forever- but it started with C**ton. He was the 1st Prosperi … his success, led to our growth as much as anyone. It’s Really hard to put into words how emotional tonight was.

How can you not think about all the time spent together?

How can you not think about how grateful you are that the family took a chance on you and listened to you …and because of your work together - his success meant your brand, your company & your influence grew.

How could you not think about how no matter what you say to C**ton tonight will not do how you feel about this kid & his family justice.

I felt all of those things tonight.

I feel those things as I’m writing this.

There’s just nothing I can say they will describe how grateful I am and how much I’ve enjoyed this journey.
