A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER ORGANIZATION: WELL-TRAINED, WELL-ORGANIZED AND WELL PREPARED

09/26/2026

Dangerous storm approaching - be mindful of the wind and rain. Follow the borough Office of Emergency Management posts and do not drive through flooded streets. Also, if your power goes out and you use a generator, please see notes below to avoid fires or illness. Generators provide electricity but also produce carbon monoxide, a silent killer. If you have any emergencies, call Borough Police Dept. on 9-1-1. Above all, be careful and be safe.

Remembering all who perished on that fateful day, and those that suffered afterwards. Please join us at 630 PM at the municipal building to once again commemorate that day, and especially to remember the 343 men and women of the fire service who gave all.

On August 4th, PLPD hosted National Night Out for our town. PLVFD was happy to participate in this event. Many thanks to our fellow first responders at PLPD for hosting this fun and educational event. PLVFD set up a pumper and tower ladder and established a light fog stream to cool off young and old. We also had members present to answer any questions about fire prevention. We are always happy to participate in events for our town and we hope you all enjoyed this annual event.

Last week the PLVFD practiced extrication of a victim from a motor vehicle. This is an important part of our training and is used whenever there is entrapment in a vehicle. We use very powerful hydraulic tools to remove those portions of the vehicle that prevent extraction of a person trapped inside. We hope not to need them, however, we are prepared if the circumstances warrant. Remember to wear seat belts and use child seats for young children.

A tragedy is unfolding in the Passaic River in Passaic. Three young children went into the river and two never came out. After days of searching, emergency first responders from many departments helped locate the 10 yr old boy, but the 10 yr old girl is still missing. Pompton Lakes Fire Department has responded to the scene with our boat to relieve other departments and to try to find the missing girl. This is one of the saddest that we do, but the family deserves our every effort. Please pray or think good thoughts for the families and the first responders.
