All things drumming

It took me a long time to figure out that a clean space is a clean mind. Not an easy task for a creative person as our minds are often scattered and jumping from one idea to the next.

It’s important to embrace that part of ourselves but also to carve out another part that keeps things in order. I spent many years being disorganize and wildly unproductive. It’s still a struggle but it starts with the intention.

Set your aim on an ideal and take baby steps towards that. For me that was being organized and not procrastinating. I haven’t conquered it but I’ve made progress.

That’s all we can hope for and I think it’s a win.

Happy 4th to all my fellow Yankees. Happy Thursday to everyone else :)

Today marks another year around the sun. A year filled with blessings. A year filled with pain. Such is life.

As I grow older it doesn’t feel like I grow smarter or wiser, it feels like there are layers of ignorance that fall off. Like there’s an insight inside me that’s always been there that I’ve learned to forget. It’s a simple awareness of the magnificent here and now. When I forget about that is when the problems of life rush back in and everything seems so complicated, chaotic, and negative.

I’m certainly more and more aware of my own impermanence and impending death, that is salient. But it’s giving me a sense of purpose and meaning to make something of my life and be a blessing to others when I can and use whatever tools I was born with for the Good.

I’m full of gratitude. For you. For us.

Who is a new artist you’ve been into lately? I’m looking for something new to listen to. 🙏

The origins of my desire to create are just as mysterious as the force that pushes me to continue in the face of all the challenges that come along with it. For most of my life, I’ve felt a drive and purpose to create art that someone, somewhere might find beautiful. I’ve also always felt a resistance as I’m attempting to do it. I’m still trying to make sense of it all. I don’t care much for fame or glory, which might seem counterintuitive as I’m making a push to grow a social media account for music, but I simply see this as a means to an end to fulfill a purpose that resides deep within me. I don’t know what’s to come but I know that I’m not stopping.

“In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? This is mine.
