I don’t give a f**k I really don’t. sometimes it’s okay to be an absolutist about things because that’s the only way the principle functions. I’m a free speech absolutist and I’m an anti-cancel culture absolutist. if you wouldn’t want your best friend to be mercilessly s**t-talked, have completely unfounded rumors spread about them, have them lose their job and housing and have hundreds of strangers send them death threats and drive them to the edge of sanity when they did absolutely nothing wrong—then you cannot support cancel culture in any scenario. just like free speech for me and not for thee is bulls**t and not actually free speech and will backfire as soon as your ideological opponent gains power over you, the same is true of cancellation.

for me it was a relational expression of defiance that unfortunately still had me defining myself primarily in response to men/sexism and not free from it. and it had the unintended effect of making it impossible to fully heal from my trauma because as long as I understood myself as nonbinary I couldn’t clearly see how gender played into it—namely sexism and objectification as a teenage girl/young woman. I was too wrapped up in trying to aggressively assert my freedom from gender roles to understand simply that my friend had done this to me because I am a woman and he did not respect women, our bodies or our boundaries.
