We kicked off the general election season by joining Oregon Labor Federation, AFL-CIO and other union siblings in knocking on doors for Lamar Wise for State House. SEIU members endorsed Lamar Wise because we know that as an Oregon AFSCME Council 75 member, he will continue to stand up for working families in his role as Oregon State Representative when elected. The support of elected leaders like Lamar Wise help us to make sure Oregonians have the protections under the law we all deserve. We are the caregivers and support staff who keep Legacy Health running, and we are not accepting proposals that do not address our priorities. After months at the bargaining table, Legacy Health has shown us that its priorities are not our priorities.
We told Legacy clearly what we need: fair compensation, affordable healthcare, safe staffing, and meaningful paid time off; Legacy’s proposals do not move us forward.
In several areas, they move us backward, stripping protections we have already won and asking us to accept less than what we have today. We refuse to bargain against ourselves.
We refuse to accept a contract that doesn’t allow us to give the greatest care to the community we serve!

Bargaining continued at Samaritan Lebanon Hospital today with SEIU 49 President Meg Niemi joining caregivers in the negotiations. Lebanon caregivers along with SEIU 49 members at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and Albany General Hospital are standing up for a fair contract that provides competitive wages to recruit ad retain great workers while affording the ability to live in the communities they serve, affordable healthcare for themselves and their families, and respect for longevity.
All of these are key components to providing quality patient care across the Samaritan system, including Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital and Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital on the coast who settled their contracts earlier this year.
