4 Shades of Blue Jadeite You Need to Know 💙

Think all blue jadeite looks the same?

Think again.

There are actually four very different shades of blue jadeite.

Let’s start with the lightest: Sky Blue.

It’s clean, soft, and bright — just like a clear sky.

There’s very little gray, and when the jadeite has high translucency, it can have a beautiful icy or even glassy appearance.

Next is Lake Blue.

Think of it as the middle ground between Sky Blue and Deep Sea Blue.

It’s a little deeper and softer, often with a subtle green undertone — just like clear lake water.

Then we go much deeper: Deep Sea Blue.

This blue is rich, dark, and intense.

In low light, it can look almost blackish, but under stronger light, that deep blue really comes alive.

And then there’s Blue-Green.

This shade is softer and more balanced, sitting between blue and green.

It has a light, fresh look with a more even body color.

So, think of them like this:

Sky Blue — light and clean ☁️
Lake Blue — soft blue with a touch of green 🌊
Deep Sea Blue — dark, rich, and intense 🌌
Blue-Green — fresh, balanced, and natural 💚💙

Same blue family…

But a completely different look.

She Turned One Stone Into a Love Story 💚

A piece of jewelry can be beautiful…

But what if it could tell a love story?

This story started with just one piece of jadeite.

My client chose this rich yellow jadeite, with a touch of floating blue-green, especially for her boyfriend.

The largest section was carved into Archangel Michael — a symbol of justice, protection, and overcoming evil.

Almost like a hero.

And maybe… that’s exactly how she sees him.

But we didn’t stop there.

From the remaining jadeite, we created three different crosses.

This clean cross was designed as a matching piece for the Archangel Michael pendant.

And these two?

They look almost identical, except for their different bail designs.

Because yes… they’re a couple’s set too. ❤️

One piece of jadeite became a story.

A symbol.

And something made especially for one person and one love.

A jade bangle can be beautiful—but what if you choose the wrong size?

For men or women, young or old, there’s a much safer choice:

The Ping An Kou. 🟢

You may know it as the “Peace Buckle.”

At first glance, it looks incredibly simple:

Just a round piece of jade with a hole in the center.

But this simple shape has a fascinating history.

Its ancient ancestor can be traced to the jade bi discs of Neolithic China, including the Liangzhu culture.

The circular form was associated with the heavens, while the central opening carried important ritual and symbolic meaning.

These jade discs were precious ceremonial objects, closely connected with ritual and status.

Over the centuries, circular jade forms evolved.

By later periods, smaller round jade ornaments became wearable, transforming an ancient jade shape into something people could carry close to themselves.

During the Ming and Qing periods, related circular jade ornaments were also associated with the idea of appreciating antiquity, including forms known as “Huan Gu” or “Huai Gu” in traditional usage.

And today?

The Ping An Kou has become one of the most recognizable jade designs.

Its simple circle can symbolize:

💚 Peace and safety

And there’s another reason it makes such a great gift:

The Greenest Jade Isn’t Always the Best One! 💚

Don’t just pick the darkest green.

Look closely at the color, color distribution, texture, and overall condition.

Let me show you how I would compare them.

💚 Bangle A

The color is very full, and the green is extremely deep.

It definitely catches your eye.

But because the color is so deep, it can sometimes look a little heavy and less lively.

💚 Bangle B

Now look at B.

The green is brighter and more intense.

At first glance, it might seem like the obvious winner.

But look closely…

See that mineral inclusion?

It’s very noticeable.

For many buyers, a prominent inclusion can be a major drawback, especially when comparing otherwise similar pieces.

💚 Bangle C

Now look at C.

The color is more beautifully distributed and feels much more balanced.

And look at the texture…

It’s finer, smoother, and more refined.

So if these three bangles were similarly priced, C would be my choice.

And this is why I always say:

Don’t judge jadeite by color alone.

🎨 Color gets your attention.

✨ But balanced color, fine texture, translucency, luster, and overall condition are what make a piece truly beautiful.

The darkest green isn’t automatically the best jade.

Sometimes, the best piece is the one with the best overall balance.

When I compare jadeite, I pay close attention to texture and translucency.

I always say:

“Texture and translucency are the soul of jade.”

Why?

A fine, compact texture can give jadeite a smoother appearance and help create that beautiful, refined luster.

That’s the glow you often notice in high-quality jadeite. ✨

Now compare that with a piece that has strong color but a coarse, obvious texture.

It may grab your attention immediately…

But if the texture is too coarse, the stone may look less refined and have a less attractive luster.

And remember:

💚 Color gets your attention.
✨ Texture and translucency give jadeite its character.

When I compare jadeite, I never look at just one feature.

I look at the whole picture:

Texture
Translucency
Color
Luster
Structural condition

That’s why a stone with less intense color can sometimes be more appealing—and more valuable—than one with stronger color but poorer overall quality.
