We couldn’t be more thrilled to unveil our Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion trophies, hand carved out of stone in Bali and inspired by the two tallest peaks in Washington State. The carving tradition in Bali stretches back centuries, passed down through families and small village workshops.

Each piece is uniquely crafted, transforming iconic Pacific Northwest landscapes into works of art worthy of the champions who earn them.

Each piece is hand-carved from a solid block of natural Indonesian andesite stone. An artisan team carves each piece one by one using chisels, diamond burr rotary tools, and grinders. Every sculpture is hand-carved and no two pieces are exactly alike.

These aren’t just trophies. They’re Sculpted Peaks. And we can’t wait to place them in the hands of this year’s winners.

We’re excited to welcome 98.9 The Bull to Smoke on the Sound Public Day as the official host of the People’s Choice Award!

After sampling incredible BBQ from our competing teams, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite. Then stick around as 98.9 The Bull announces the People’s Choice Champion live on-site at the end of the day!

And if you spot the adorable trophy- a crochet bull- on site, be sure to give it some love! 🧶🐂 The piece was handcrafted by a talented local artist who also created the custom 2nd Place awards for each KCBS category: Chicken, Ribs, Pork, and Brisket.

Who will earn the crowd’s vote? Come hungry, cast your ballot, and be part of the action.

We hope you'll join us Sept. 26-27, 2026 in Redmond, WA for the inaugural Smoke on the Sound! This event is being hosted by our daughter, Kira and her husband Connor. They've been working hard with the local municipalities and promoting the event and are anticipating over 10,000 people on Saturday 9/26. Admittance is free to the Public!

Saturday- live music, craft beer, like our good friends Old Stove Brewing - Ship Canal, a Rib Cook Off Association Rib & Wing Cookoff with a $2,300 payout, everyone is welcome to cook or even judge, public sampling, and a People's Choice Award presented by 98.9FM The Bull. The live music on Saturday has Portland's Jess Olson and Redmond's own Back to Rock, a music school that will also be running sound and production.

Sunday kicks off the KCBS Masters BBQ Competition! Teams are competing for $7,000 and a chance to be invited to the Jack Daniel's World BBQ Invitational Championships in Lynchburg, TN. Check out these awards - locally blown glass apples, handcrafted BBQ animals and custom trophies!

Our BBQ travels took us to Meridian, Idaho last weekend, a trendy suburb of Boise for the 2nd Annual Meat & Tater BBQ Fest. The promoter, Annella Kelso does an incredible job throwing a BBQ fest and for making teams feel special - each team received a custom potato sack with our team name on it, filled with apparel, a knife, hacky sacks, fans, an event logo'd Yeti cup, snack sticks, I mean, it was loaded! And the trophies are always cool, this year they were retro metal signs. The fest has a corresponding old car show, with cars coming in from all over, including as far away as Missouri.

The BBQ competition is sponsored by Snake River Farms and brings in top teams from all over - 6 countries (including England) and a lot of the top teams including 5 World Champions and a couple GOAT's, 53 teams in total.

We had a great cook, when it comes to brisket we don't normally turn in burnt ends, but we're thinking of running them for The Jack and decided to give em a go. We started them on the Outlaw BBQ Smokers Ringo and moved them to the Outlaw BBQ Smokers offset once they were wrapped, ended up liking them so much we turned em in with the slices.

Overall 19th. The judges didn't care for our pork or ribs, but that's the game we play, we'll run the same program in a couple weeks in Riverside, CA!

Smoke on the Sound 1st Place trophies - hand blown Washington State apples!

We traveled 2 hours north this weekend and competed in the 9th Annual DuPont BBQ Cookoff in DuPont, WA. The weather was perfect all weekend and the teams brought the heat! Saturday several teams vended meatballs in support of fellow competitor and good friend Paul. We threw our hat in and made some Bacon Cheeseburger Meatballs made with Wagyu Brisket. In addition to the meatballs we made some apple cherry st. louis ribs. Everything sold out in a couple hours. It was fun having so many friends and family come out, time flew by and we found ourselves getting to bed late each night.

Our cook went well, we were really happy with the chicken and brisket. Out of 28 teams we finished:

6th Chicken (1st on table)
6th Ribs (1st on table)
11th Pork (won Wild Child)
13th Brisket

Overall 8th!
