Bug Toast
We are a toasty band from Portland, Oregon playing genre-bending, world-influenced, progressive Folk Music!
Rehearsing CASH's new piece "1966, One and Three" this week.
Blackfish Gallery: Thank you to all who came out for our closing performance for “Signs of Dissent.” We had the Bluegrass power trio Jam Busters and the prog folk ensemble Bug Toast to round out the month, each group presenting a 45-minute set. The closing encores featured both groups together, and the night ended with a rousing sing-along with the audience. What a night to close out a month that featured double-header concerts each weekend, musical theater, storytelling, comedy, performance art, panel discussions, and two hands-on art art workshops.
We have exciting, special programming this spring and into early summer. If you aren’t already on our mailing list, go to www.blackfish.com and sign up. We hope to see you at Blackfish Gallery, the artist-owned & operated gallery and cultural hub in the Pearl District!
Friday, Feb. 27, 7:30pm

* Jam Busters
The JAM BUSTERS are a bluegrass power trio consisting of Justin Auld (guitar, vocals), Jed Mitchell (mandolin, vocals) and Matt Donahue (bass, vocals). Playing more obscure and challenging bluegrass songs and tunes, the JAM BUSTERS strive to push the boundaries of traditional jamming to the limit.
* Bug Toast
Bug Toast defy categorization, playing genre-bending progressive chamber folk on zouk, accordion, guitars, bass, violin, synthesizer, and percussion. Major themes of their music center on social justice and deep human experience.
Blended from two musical families, the ensemble creates the arrangements together – richly textured, interwoven pieces with careful attention to counterpoint, voicing, harmonies, and rhythms, often in interesting modes and time signatures.

May we harness the message and non-violent methods of Dr. King, whom we remember and honor today. This is our most critical moment. This is an excerpt from our music video of CASH's piece "Many Hands," which you can see on our website homepage (link in bio), featuring MLK and many other heroes.
Come see us perform on February 27 in the "Signs of Dissent Show" at Blackfish Gallery.

A hero and major influence. Thank you, Ralph Towner. Rest In Peace.
RIP Ralph Towner.
Composer extraordinaire who played guitar and keyboards. Mostly known through the group Oregon.
Though I never met him, I always felt a kinship with Ralph since we both studied composition at the University of Oregon -- a school pretty much off the beaten path of music programs. He was there long before I arrived.
A second kinship for me was how beautifully he could flow from fully-composed music into improvisation and smoothly transition back. Leaving the listener (me) uncertain where the seams were.
This is something I continue to reach for.
Thanks for all the years of music, Ralph.
