THE LAST LIGHT
Late summer. Cooler nights. Books worth staying up for.
Summer is still here, but something has shifted.
The sun is going down earlier. The windows are still open, but not for quite as long. We are entering the part of the year when a book on the nightstand starts to look better than almost anything else.

Yes, we’re announcing 2028 in 2026. That’s on purpose. We want readers to meet these writers before the pub date, before the preorder push, before the industry starts asking everyone to lower their voices.
So here it is: the Unsolicited Press 2028 lineup. Fiction, poetry, nonfiction, hybrid work, travel, memory, bloodshed, dirt, appetite, grief, bodies, secrets, monsters, mothers, and books with no interest in behaving.
In 2028, Unsolicited Press turns sixteen. We’re marking it the only way that makes sense to us:

Tomorrow night, we're going to Burntwood.
Join us for the August Unsolicited Press Book Club as we sit down with David Loring Nash to talk about The Burntwood Anthology: six dark stories rooted in a fictional corner of Northern Wisconsin where rivers keep secrets, old legends have teeth, desire gets dangerous, and people have a remarkable talent for convincing themselves they're in control.
We'll talk about the Burntwood River itself, the strange geography of Wondrous Bluffs, masculinity and violence, queerness and secrecy, witchcraft, revenge, monsters, bad decisions, and what happens when the natural world refuses to stay in the background.
And yes, we're going to ask David whether some of these people deserve what happens to them.

The Home Stretch by Michael Campagnoli is not afraid to experiment with form and movement, in a collection that weaves dialogue, theme, and image together. Metaphor drives the collection of poems, as seen in "Loons", when the speaker says:

2027 will be our 15th year. It will be unmistakably Unsolicited. The covers will be on f-ing point. The authors, what a freaking roster. I’ve powered through this year in a bit of a tizzy. Taken on too much. Always feeling like I’m doing too little. But here we go.
2026 is far from over. This is a catalog that absolutely blew it out of the water and forced us to grow. Keeping up has been tough, but guess what? We’re there. The press is no longer a little thing. It’s transforming into what it was always supposed to be!

The bright red fish are gone from a sports fishing destination lake in Oregon’s Wallowa Mountains, and the Nez Perce Tribe and the government want to know why. Biologist Jess MacKinnon tears into the mountains on her motorcycle to solve the mystery. She takes the place of a government scientist, Ben Fletcher, who drowned in that very same lake. Jess knew Ben, and not just professionally—but that’s a secret.
There are a lot of secrets in the tiny mountain town of Still Lake, including one that puts Jess in danger: Ben’s death was no accident. With help from a quirky private investigator who describes herself as “not neurotypical,” Jess solves the mystery of Ben’s death and the mystery of the fish.
