Provider Spotlight! Emily Schomann, LPC

“My philosophy of counseling is based on the belief that the client possesses the power to change, and that it is my role to help the client become aware of how to understand and utilize that power. I operate from a systemic approach in which I consider all the interactions a client is having with their family and community and suggest alternatives that might lead to the changes a client desires. I accept whatever goals and frameworks the client and/or family bring to sessions, and attempt to work within their framework to help folks achieve what they desire.

Issues such as self-esteem, behavioral difficulties in school and/or home, divorce or separation, bereavement, drug and alcohol issues and difficulties in family communication are among the wide range of situations with which I typically work. I have specialized training in cognitive behavior therapy, strategic family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, motivational interviewing, gender-affirming therapy for transgender people, and foster and adoptive therapy.”

New Blog Post! What Is Emotional Regulation and Why Does It Matter?

Emotional regulation is the ability to understand, manage, and respond to emotions in healthy ways. It does not mean ignoring feelings, avoiding difficult emotions, or staying calm all the time. Instead, emotional regulation allows us to experience emotions while still choosing how we respond.

At BrightSpire Health, we help clients develop awareness and skills that support emotional balance, communication, and healthier relationships.

The ways we learned to communicate, trust, and connect during childhood can shape how we navigate relationships as adults. While many of these patterns develop as coping strategies, they may no longer serve us in our current relationships.

At BrightSpire Health, we help individuals explore how past experiences may be affecting present-day connection.

🌿 Good habits improve our mental health by reducing daily stress, stabilizing mood, and giving us a sense of control over our lives. 🌿

🌿 Habits require less active thought and effort once they become automatic, freeing up brain power. Predictable routines create a sense of stability and safety, which lowers anxiety. 🌿

New Blog Post! High-Functioning Anxiety: When You Look Fine but Feel Overwhelmed

Many people picture anxiety as visible panic, fear, or avoidance. But for many individuals, anxiety can look very different. They continue showing up for work, relationships, responsibilities, and daily life while privately feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge.

This experience is often described as high-functioning anxiety. While it is not a formal diagnosis, it describes a common pattern where someone appears successful and capable on the outside while struggling internally.

At BrightSpire Health, we help clients understand that functioning well does not mean you are not struggling. You can be accomplishing a lot and still need support.
