"[Jesus] saw the tax collector [Matthew] and, because He saw him through the eyes of mercy and chose him, He said to him: Follow me."

This snippet from a homily of Venerable Bede's speaks of Christ's calling of Matthew the Tax Collector to become Matthew the Apostle. (It is from this text that Pope Francis chose his motto, "Miserando atque Eligendo")

It is a reminder that He has called each of us to follow Him -- not for the sake of command, but for the sake of His mercy and love. He looks upon each one of us with the same eyes. Never forget that.
