🐾 October is Pet Obesity Awareness Month! 💛
A few extra pounds can have a bigger impact on your pet’s health than you might think. Maintaining a healthy weight can help support mobility, joint health, energy levels, and overall quality of life. A lifelong study showed that Labrador retrievers fed a calorie-restricted diet lived 2 years longer on average.
Not sure if your pet is at a healthy weight? Here are a few things to consider:
🐶 Can you easily feel their ribs without pressing hard?
🐱 Can you see a defined waist when looking from above?
🥣 Are treats and table scraps adding more calories than you realize?
🚶 Is your pet getting enough age-appropriate daily activity?
Every pet is different, and the ideal weight depends on their age, breed, body type, and overall health.
At BarburVet, we can assess your pet’s body condition, discuss nutrition and exercise, and help create a realistic plan to keep them feeling their best. 💛
A healthy weight is an important part of a healthy life!

We get it. Your animal companions are family, and access to affordable care is important.
One of the ways to help with the cost of care is with pet insurance. It can help make unexpected veterinary costs easier to manage—but choosing the right plan can feel overwhelming.
That’s why we recommend Pawlicy Advisor, a free tool that lets you compare pet insurance options and find coverage that fits your pet and your budget. 💛

🎯 BarburVet Tip: When Should You Call the Vet?
You know your pet best! If you notice a sudden change in their appetite, energy, behavior, breathing, mobility, or bathroom habits, it’s worth giving us a call. Other signs like persistent vomiting or diarrhea, pain, unusual swelling, or symptoms that just aren’t improving should also be checked.
When in doubt, reach out. Catching changes early can make a big difference in your pet’s health. 💛

🐾 September is Pet Sitter Education Month! 🐾
A trusted pet sitter can make all the difference when you’re away—keeping your pet comfortable, maintaining their routine, and watching for any changes in their health or behavior.
Before you head out, help your sitter feel prepared:
💛 Share feeding, medication & exercise routines
💛 Leave your veterinarian’s contact information
💛 Provide emergency contacts and instructions
💛 Make sure medications and supplies are clearly labeled
💛 Update your pet’s microchip and ID information
And don’t forget to show your pet sitter a little extra appreciation this month. They’re an important part of your pet’s care team!
From all of us at BarburVet, thank you to the pet sitters who keep our patients safe, happy, and loved while their families are away. 💛🐶🐱

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 💛
Animals can’t always tell us when they’re hurting. Changes in mobility, activity, appetite, sleep, or behavior may be subtle signs of pain.
At BarburVet, we offer advanced, non-invasive therapies to help manage pain and support healing:
⚡ Pulse Wave Therapy – uses targeted acoustic waves to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and support recovery from orthopedic and soft-tissue injuries.
✨ Laser Therapy – uses therapeutic light to help decrease pain and inflammation while supporting tissue repair and mobility.
Both treatments can be helpful options for pets dealing with arthritis, injuries, chronic pain, or recovery after a procedure.
If your pet just doesn’t seem like themselves, talk with our veterinary team. Together, we can find ways to help them feel and move better. 💛
