While the weather has cooled a bit and we have had some precipitation hit the region, we still have some of deployed to assist in the active regional wild land fires. Here are some images from the Austin Fire where our REMS Team has been deployed for many weeks, trading out members but remaining present to respond at the direction of command and assist in other duties as needed. The primary duties of the REMS Team is to be involved in the rapid extraction of an injured or ill firefighter on the front lines but can perform other tasks to assist in the fire while monitoring the radios and being prepared. Some of these tasks include clearing of trees from roadways and addressing areas of fire damage to prevent any further flaring up of unburnt materials.

It has been a long season, and we expect to be deploying to help for a few more weeks if not more. All that said, it is an honor to put in work using the training acquired here in Portland to assist others around the state.

The final event of our tribute to those impacted by the 9/11 attack 25 years ago is a charity soccer match hosted at Providence Park by the Portland Timbers where Portland Fire plays Portland Police. The match benefits the Toy n Joy Makers of PF&R and the Sunshine Pantry Division of PPB and is a great way to connect and give back.

hosted our annual 9/11 Memorial Event at Waterfront Park with the Fire Fighters' Association, IAFF Local 43 on Friday with the event bookended with our Pipes and Drums Band with impactful messages shared by Chief Johnson, Mayor Wilson, and VP Webb shared from the podium.

It is our way of holding our promise to those that gave their all that we will never forget. This event occurs annually and open to the entire community and you can place this in your mental calendar to make time to join us next year on 9/11 and be a part of our tribute to honor those who sacrificed everything for their community.

As a way to pay tribute to the 343 FDNY and countless civilians who lost their lives in NYC-DC-PA on 9/11 stand out in front of their stations at the time each tower of the World Trade Center fell 25 years ago. You may have seen this yourself as you were traveling to school or work on Friday.

We will continue to honor those who gave their all in the fashion each and every year....we will never forget.

How does Portland honor the firefighters who have lost their lives in service to the City of Portland?

While we spent the day yesterday focused on the 343 FDNY Firefighters that lost their lives in the collapse of the World Trade Center 25 years ago, with moments of silence, a memorial ceremony, and a community charity soccer game we want to share how Portland Fire & Rescue memorializes the 79 members of who have died in the line of service.

On June 26, 1911, Fire Chief David Campbell lost his life in a significant fire event that led to the creation of the David Campbell Memorial that was constructed at SW Alder between SW 18th and 19th (quite close to the present-day Providence Park Stadium). While Chief Campbell was not the first firefighter death in the city, his was quite impactful leading to a community funded memorial designed and constructed in the years following his death. The memorial was dedicated in 1928 and over the past century has seen the surrounding city landscape change dramatically while also facing the challenges of a century of PNW Weather and other damages resulting in an effort to modernize and renovate the area to properly honor all Portland Firefighters who have lost their lives in service to the City of Portland.

Annually we honor each Portland Firefighter who gave their life in service on June 26th, the anniversary of the Union Oil Fire that took the life of Chief David Campbell. Portland Fire has moved this ceremony from the Memorial Site to the Firefighters Section of Lone Fir Cemetery but look forward to the ability to return to the Portland Fire Memorial Triangle upon completion of the renovation project. It is our vision to have this be an honorable community space for all to enjoy and reflect upon those members listed.

You can directly support the efforts to memorialize those Portland Firefighters who gave their all through some charitable campaigns with the ability to purchase a memorial brick to be placed at the new facility or simply donate directly. The public campaign to purchase bricks will be shared soon.

would like to thank all those that attended our 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Waterfront Park yesterday morning to memorialize all those affected in the tragic events of 9/11 twenty-five years ago. It was an incredible day along the waterfront with the Portland Fire Pipes and Drums Band (), the Portland Fire Honor Guard, and a water display in the Willamette from Fire Boat 21 framing some impactful messages from Fire Chief Lauren Johnson, Mayor Keith Wilson, and IAFF Local 43 - Portland Firefighters VP Kris Webb. (We will post more images of the ceremony over the weekend to give you a visual of parts of the ceremony)

We will never forget....

The empty boots strewn about the training campus is not a tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedies of 9/11 but the status of the turnouts midday of the recruits assigned to the training station yesterday. Having just recently started running calls on a shift schedule, assigned to Station 2 began the day by standing in front of their rigs in moments of silence honoring the 343 FDNY Firefighters and the countless civilians who lost their lives 25 years ago. The recruits then went to work, going over the training truck, performing active hose evolutions with the training staff.....and running calls.

While the crew was performing a drill using the training engine a commercial fire was dispatched out. The recruits hustle to the front-line engine, change into their front-line protective turnouts, and responded to the fire gaining valuable learning experience on live fire calls. As they were returning to their station a residential fire dropped and they redirected themselves to work and learn in this setting. You can see their officer beginning to discuss the home affected and start putting them to work to learn alongside all the others on scene who went through this very same process of training.

9/11 is a very important day in the fire service and we will never forget.... but once the memorializing is complete, it is time to get back to work to prepare to respond to your emergency.
