Eastside Village is the first grassroots aging-in-place Village in the Portland metro-area.

A Village is a group of like-minded people in a geographic area who come together to help each other age affordably in their own homes. This kind of village is not a building or a real estate development or a retirement community. It is a coordinated network of volunteer and reduced cost services that supports village members to do as much for as little cost for as long as possible.

Memorial Room at Trinity Church was packed, as always, for yesterday’s World Cultures meeting. The speaker, Prudence Roberts, is an art historian and former museum curator. Her special interest is fiber arts, and her talk focused on Chilean arpilleras, a traditional form of stitchery that incorporates embroidery, patchwork and appliqué, and that became an underground expression of political opposition during the Pinochet regime. But she also traced the broader history of politics in fiber arts back to the Bayeux Tapestry. Thank you, Prudence, for a fascinating presentation.

Our Trimet adventurers visited the Zoo a couple of days ago, and had a grand ol’ time.

Here are several pics from last month’s Messy, Beautiful Art workshop -- a Chihuly project taught by Claire Cofsky and Dennis Hopkins. This was the second session of the two-part project.
Everyone had a good time and we had a wide variety of art at the conclusion.
