Our street mural outside the Isaka Shamsud-Din apartments at 14th Place & Killingsworth is officially finished!

Big shoutout to Sumiya Coleman for the amazing design and for bringing this whole vision to life. We’re so grateful for the time, creativity, and love you put into it. As well as who makes it easy and accessible for people to come together and add a little bit of art back into our neighborhoods.

And thank you to everyone who came out, picked up a brush, and helped us paint. This mural really came together because of the community. ❤️

With the Summer coming to an end, we say goodbye to our lovley summer interns. Coming from Schools in Oregon and the East Coast, this amazing group of young folk were an amazing asset to sabin this summer and we wish them the best in their next endeavors !

ATTENTION, ATTENTION !!

Today is not just any ordinary day. It is a day of bitter sweetness and joy.

Our Summer OS and Full Term OS Interns are leaving the nest and spreading their wings elsewhere. Four teams including our Development Team, Green Team, Resident Serves Team, and of course, the Community Engagement Team, that featured members who will be deeply missed.

We appreciate you as our community letting each member feel welcome and encouraged and we know they will miss Sabin as well.

As we near the end of Summer, we just wanted to give you a community resource that doesn’t require being outdoors 💻.

Climate Trace is a tracking platform that allows you to stay updated on climate changes such as gas emissions and the impacts on your community.

We hope this resource finds our Earth 🌍 lovers well !!

Meet your Haha for Housing comedians !! 🎭

Our lineup will feature five amazing act from each individual, including our new addition, mama fi !!

Take this moment and read a bit on why our comedians do what they do and love doing it and maybe get convinced to see them live 🎟️.

Grab your paints 🎨 and paintbrushes (and maybe a jacket)🧥 because Sabin CDC will be having a mural painting event.

Our event will be happening in the parking lot next to the Isaka Shamsud-Din residence, a building named in honor of him.

Isaka was a renowned Portland artist, activist, and educator. He captured the essence of African American culture through paintings, drawings, and murals. He also had a deep connection to the Alberta community, with his studio located there, he built lasting connections with the people around him.

This mural was designed by our very own summer intern, Sumiya Coleman. A Black female artist, who has also been inspired by the work of Isaka and his endeavors.

We hope you all can join us September 8th and/or 9th.

It’s (sadly) that time of year !! 😓

Kids are back in school 👩🏿‍🏫, the weather is getting colder and the cloudy skies are back. But, we still have enough sun 🌞 for one more Playstreets !

We’re bringing back Community Energy Project and the Master Recycler program ♻️. There will also be an opportunity to play some mini golf ⛳️ .

And finally, to top it off, we will be having a mural painting 🫟happening during the event to honor Portland artist, Isaka Shamsud-Din 👨🏾‍🎨.

Oil up your wallets ! A fundraiser is happening !!

Starting in September, Sabin will be having a fundraiser to help with the construction of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) as well as appliances for one of our properties. These donations will allow for a community member with disabilities to live comfortably and independently in the ADU.

BACK TO SCHOOL 🚌, BACK TO REALITY 📚

Sabin CDC’s Back to School event was more amazing than we could ever imagine. With over 25+ families coming out to our event, we were able to support more than 40 children with school supplies ✏️ , healthcare 🏥 , and other resources 📓 to ensure they have the best school year possible.

This event couldn’t have been as successful as it was without the help of Kindness Farm 🌿 Black Food Sovereignty Coalition Forge Hot Yoga | Hot Pilates Daytrip Farm Collective and Alberta Cooperative Grocery and other donations from our community !! Thank you all so much for your underlying support and dedication to our community 🫂✨.
