⭐️WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT⭐️

Centerpiece Statements: Creating Large Ceramic Platters with Julie Cunningham

In this workshop, students will use earthenware clay to design and create a large platter. Participants will learn how to use a slab roller to make a uniform slab which will then be placed in pre-cut slump molds - easy!

We’ll learn a variety of handle styles to give your piece both function and personality. Stamps, texture tools, and colored slips will be demonstrated and available to add surface details and decoration, making the platters uniquely your own. We’ll explore sgraffito - the technique of carving through colored slip to reveal the clay color underneath - as well as sprigging (adding clay details).

⭐️ 9/25 • Demo and Q&A with Tara Wilson! • 5:30-7:30pm

Join us for a live demonstration and Q&A session with woodfiring phenom, Tara Wilson! Her demonstrations will include examples of throwing and altering techniques for creating Tara’s distinctive gestural forms. Discussions and conversations are encouraged throughout the demo, and will range through all aspects of making, the creative process, wood firing, and maintaining a productive studio routine and rewarding artistic practice. This demonstration offers practical, adaptable techniques suitable for potters of all levels.

⭐️ 9/26-27 • Layered Slip Surfaces with Naomi Lindenfeld

This is a full-process 2-day workshop, meaning that Naomi will demonstrate everything from building pieces with fresh clay to finishing them with slip decoration. She will show slab building techniques, such as using templates, folding, wrapping, and draping slabs - and folding, attaching, and treating seams, edges, and corners effectively. You will learn how to roll slabs to use as a canvas to practice your slip decoration technique before applying it to your own pieces. Finally, Naomi will guide you through sgraffito, stenciling, combing, printing, inlaying, and painting with 8 colored slips to create surfaces on your ceramics that have depth and intrigue. She will also explain how slips are made so that you can make your own if you’d like!

⭐️ 9/27 • Body Savers for Makers: Support for the Ceramicist with Shannon Murphy! • 10-12pm

In this workshop you’ll learn strategies to set up your ceramic work space in a way that supports you! We will talk through general body mechanics, “movement snacks” to use while you’re working at the studio, home “play” that supports your body outside of the studio, and general holistic practices that support longevity and sustainability as a maker with clay.

🍁Candle Workshop with Lauren Chunias • 10/4 • 12-1:30pm

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to blend fragrances to create your own unique scent, how to melt and pour candle wax, and how to turn your empty jars into candles in the future. You’ll walk away with an 8 oz candle (to be picked up after class) in a piece of your very own pottery. Open to all levels, no prior experience required!

🍁Glass Fusing with Annie! • 10/4 • 12-1:30pm

Join our favorite clay, kiln, and glass local-master, Annie Rodriguez, for this 2-hour glass fusing workshop. Open to kids and adults of all levels! Great for first-timers and for folks looking to refine their skills. We offer this workshop with a Fall theme in mind, but you are welcome to come and make anything you’re feeling inspired by!

🍁 Pumpkin Party with Annie! • 10/18 • 1-2:30pm

It’s that time of year! Our favorite fall tradition is back—and it’s open to kids and adults of all skill levels—no experience needed, just a love for creativity (and pumpkins!). At this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your very own ceramic pumpkins from start to finish.

These workshops are perfect for a weekend activity with friends and family! Can’t wait to see you in the Studio!

Join Ashley Flowers in her Mornings, Mugs, and Meditation workshop. In this 2-hour workshop you’ll learn different yoga practices, experience a guided meditation, and paint your own mug. Explore colors as a tool and weave together meditation, gentle reflection, and pottery painting as ways of practicing attention and care.
