CoHo nurtures and supports Portland area-based theatre artists through a model of theatrical co-production, championing exceptional local artists, who share their passionate work with an engaged audience, deepening the theatrical landscape of the community. CoHo’s Season
For 20 years, CoHo Productions has pioneered artist-led co-production as a model of creating theatre. Each season, CoHo solicits scripts and project proposals from Portland’s theatre professionals and our artistic council selects three to produce in partnership. The artistic vision is democratic, reflecting the tastes of the Portland theatre community. Seasons are diverse and unpredictable; the sole quality nurtured and insisted on is excellence. In 2014, CoHo implemented two additional co-production models, CoHo Presents and In Association With. CoHo Presents:
CoHo co-produces fully realized productions already produced at smaller or alternative venues and moves these productions into CoHo’s professional yet intimate theatre with our model CoHo Presents. CoHo manages all publicity and box office and compensates the co-producer with an agreed upon percentage of box office receipts. CoHo Presents: Summerfest each June and July since 2012, co-producing one show each weekend for 4-5 weeks. This festival has featured work by Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble, Shaking the Tree, The Wonderheads, Hand2Mouth Theatre, Dance Naked Productions, The Late Now, and solo performances by Butt Kapinski, Gordon Boudreau, Chris Harder, Ben Newman, Camille Cettina, Tara Travis, Tonya Jone Miller, Phil Busse, Steve Patterson, and more. There will be 2-3 other CoHo Presents: productions interspersed throughout CoHo’s main season, with discounted tickets for subscribers, such as Corrib Theatre‘s Little Gem and A Night in November. CoHo also supports emerging theatre companies with demonstrated artistic quality but lacking financial resources. CoHo co-produces these companies’ shows In Association With. CoHo manages the box office and disburses pre-production expenses, including marketing collateral and rental fees, and is reimbursed from box office receipts. For example, the world premieres by Playwright’s West in August. Guest Rentals
When CoHo theatre is not occupied by our own main season co-productions or additional programming, the space is available for Guest Rentals. This provides much-needed professional performance space to esteemed local artists in theatre, dance and comedy like Bad Reputation Productions, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Boom Arts, Staged!, and 11: Dance Co. The result of these remarkable services to the community deepens Portland’s artistic talent and increases theatrical opportunities. CoHo co-produced the initial productions for the now distinguished Third Rail Repertory and Profile Theatre companies. CoHo provides many local playwrights their initial viewings (including an original musical by Many Hats Collaboration) and CoHo Productions regularly receives awards for Outstanding Productions, Directors and Actors.

This stand-up-lay-down-squirm-around comedy set demonstrates that 20+ time award-winner Amica Hunter (ANATOMICA) has “lost the plot” and is “giving up.” Their new “show” is literally about literal tubes?!? ...and “secrets.” Like, WTF. That’s NO show, and it’s NOT okay.

Jessica is an adolescent who just wants to go to the movies with her crush, but when circumstances beyond her control [and puberty] intervene, her life is forever changed.
Cluelessly insatiable and hilariously vulnerable, Jessica (Anne Zander) walks the teetering edge between innocence and desire and discovers what happens when she’s left to her own devices (in her own bedroom) for one hour. With what audiences have called “some of the best clowning I’ve ever seen,” music that will transport you right back to the late 90s, and very bad seduction, JUICEBOX is as outrageously and emotionally outsized as every teenager has ever felt.
Called “painfully funny,” “completely ridiculous” and “completely vulnerable” by BroadwayWorld, JUICEBOX was Official Selection 2020 at Chicago Sketchfest, Dallas Comedy Festival and HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival in Boston. UPDATE: We shuffled the cards and a new fool has presented itself for WEEK ONE of CLOWNFEST!
What does it mean to lead, to worship, or to seek perfection—especially when the mirror keeps changing shape? In Take Me to Your Leader: The Seoul of a Clown, I dive into a kaleidoscopic exploration the absurd, often contradictory ways we seek perfection, whether through devotion, performance, or self-governance. Each character teeters between the sacred and the ridiculous, revealing how rituals of transformation—spiritual, aesthetic, or political—can both liberate and confine.
This work is also about Korea’s fractured identity. The influence of Western imperialism, Japanese colonization, and cultural erasure have left deep scars, shaping contemporary obsessions with beauty, hierarchy, and self-fashioning. I interrogate how power operates—both historically and in the intimate rituals of daily life—how it is performed, internalized, and sometimes resisted.

BIG BABY: A solo clown show about growing up — told entirely without words.
Emily June Newton arrives on stage in a wicker basket as Big Baby: bibbed, toothy, and completely dependent on the audience. Through physical comedy and genuine audience inclusion, she stumbles from infancy into adulthood, wrestling with the questions none of us are ever quite ready for. Who am I? Who will I become?
Funny, tender, and surprisingly relatable. Becoming an adult is harder than it looks.
