From international dorm student to pioneering entrepreneur, alumna Yunha Kim ’07 was asked by the Class of 2026 to deliver their commencement address in June. Drawing on her experiences navigating a new language, building community in the dorms, and finding her path beyond OES, Yunha encouraged the grads to pay attention to their "inner weather" and remember that their worth extends far beyond their achievements. Today, Yunha is the founder and chairwoman of Sleep Reset and previously founded the mindfulness platform Simple Habit, and her journey reflects the lasting impact of an OES education.

We are in the final week of Summer at OES 2026! Our campers are making the most of every moment by tackling exciting math challenges in Math Mindset Camp, bringing big ideas to life in the Imagination Studio, discovering the natural world in the Critter Wonders Outdoor Education Camp, dialing in their skills on the basketball court, and reaching new heights on the Ropes Course.

Here's to one more week of learning, adventure, creativity, and summer fun before we wrap up another unforgettable Summer at OES!

The fun keeps on rolling on campus at Summer at OES! Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen our campers ascend the high ropes courses on campus, become young naturalists through outdoor exploration camps, hone their track & field prowess, belt Broadway numbers in theater camp, and, of course, enjoy tons of fun in the sun with friends new and old. We can't wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store.

Week two of Summer at OES is underway! ☀️ Last week, hundreds of campers joined us for a week full of summer fun and exploration. Campers transformed into city builders, track & field superstars, explorers of fairy gardens, circus performers, environmental scientists, and much more. We can't wait to see what adventures and discoveries the rest of the summer has in store.

While many students were finishing their last week of school, Eunseo O. ’27 was in Rochester, New York, presenting her research at the GENIUS Olympiad Finals, an international competition focused on environmental sustainability. Eunseo’s project explored plant microbial fuel cells, which use microorganisms in soil to generate electricity. Her research compared different membrane materials to determine which produced the most efficient energy output, highlighting both the promise and challenges of sustainable bioenergy solutions.

Although her scientific research earned international recognition, Eunseo says literature is her true passion. A poet, filmmaker, and avid reader, she has shared her creative work through the OES Spring Extravaganza and finds inspiration in both the classroom and the boarding community she calls home. From Winterim adventures and dorm life to scientific inquiry and creative expression, Eunseo’s OES experience reflects the many ways students discover their passions and grow.

This spring, 215 lower and middle school student-athletes participated in lacrosse, and another 50 participated in track & field, representing a thriving youth sports program at OES. The season was filled with growth, teamwork, and enthusiasm as players developed their skills while demonstrating resilience, sportsmanship, and confidence both on and off the field. Across all age groups, athletes worked hard in practice, supported one another, and competed with heart throughout the season, helping build a strong foundation for the future of OES athletics.

Thank you to our families for their tremendous support and encouragement all season long. We are also incredibly grateful to our coaches, John, Jude, Lauran, Benner, Marye, Sydney, Lana, Kristen, Sarah, Alex, Luke, Dennis, Austin, Marshall, Chris, and Devin. Their dedication, leadership, and passion helped create a fun, positive, and rewarding experience for every player.

We are proud of all our young student-athletes and look forward to watching them continue their growth as future OES Aardvarks in the years ahead.

We are proud to share that OES Head of School The Rev. Michael Spencer was recently appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Governors for the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS). NWAIS is a nonprofit membership association that provides accreditation, professional development and support services to over 110 schools in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The NWAIS board meets several times a year and is comprised of other heads of school in the region who work to direct the organization's strategic initiatives and to support making professional growth opportunities available to school leaders, faculty, and staff working in NWAIS network schools.
