Restorative Bodywork - CranioSacral Therapy - Healing Guide

09/15/2026

Grief is not always triggered by the familiar, it
does not have a timeline or a process to follow. It simply exists, indestructible as energy, sometimes moving you, sometimes moved by you.
No, it’s not comfortable. It’s not always kind.
Bypassing it only calcifies the weight.
Sometimes it feels like it’s going to drag you to an unreachable depth.
But treat it like a stranger at the table—deserving of an ear, a warm meal, and a little space of its own—and you’ll find it expands the conversation, it enriches the whole family.
Grief doesn’t change, it changes you.

One of the most common questions I’m asked by patients is what it feels like when my hands are on their body during CranioSacral Therapy. And my favorite response is to teach them to feel it themselves.

The CranioSacral rhythm is a tangible, measurable, biological rhythm that occurs as CranioSacral fluid is produced, fills the system, and is then released into the blood stream.
During this cycle, the paired bones on the body can be felt to externally and internally rotate with the filling and draining of CranioSacral fluid.
This rhythm is tied to the health and function of your nervous system and so can inform a practitioner of where tissue restrictions might be causing compensations, pain, and/or dysfunction.
Using light pressure, but specific techniques of application, I facilitate tissue releases, repatterning, and ultimately better function of tissue and the nervous system’s communication.

It’s a subtle modality, antithetical to the forceful, manipulative world by instead allowing the body to lead with its natural self-correcting mechanisms.

Honored Body—Somatic Self-Ownership

Tom Woodman was the director of Road’s End Farm, where I spent every summer from ages 10 to 16. After lunch, on any long hot July day, we’d be crammed on the wooden benches of the dining room reeking of horse, earth, leather, and the odd cucumber melon or cherry blossom deoderant, spooning the last of whatever pudding was for dessert into our slack jaws. Tom would come in like a thick old pine, sweating through an ancient work shirt himself, smiling warmly and offering a kind word about all the hard work we were putting in. But often, his tone turned solemn as he was compelled to address a routine bullying that was happening in the dorms. He’d begin in broad terms, but an hour later, he was laying in to us that people just aren’t treating each other right anymore, and we gotta learn how to get along or we’ll burn the whole thing down. When he really got going, he’d curse the trend of entitlement with our favorite Tom-ism: You gotta wake up and die right!

Self-ownership is in the choice of integrity.
Practice, Forgive, Learn, Try again
I no longer give my authority or autonomy to anything outside of myself.
Regardless of outcome or consequence, I accept my decisions and feel empowered to continue moving forward. Even when I fail. Even when something else fails me. Our reality has very real consequences, and still, the choice of what seems small or mundane can shape how we receive it, our experience of it, and ultimately what we do with it.

Self-ownership isn’t something you get, it’s something you do. Like choosing. Like waking up.

There are many roles in the revolution.

And while I’m no stranger to putting my body on the street, I’m also finding a deep sense of purpose and commitment to showing up in other spaces with the same spirit.

Yesterday, my class and I had an honest and vulnerable discussion about what it means to “do the work”, and damn if I was not nearly brought to tears by their skills of relating, creating safety in vulnerability, and their deep desire to be of service.

I don’t believe we’re anywhere near a finish line, but I don’t fear the discomfort of change or the grief of loss anymore. And that liberty drives my blood ever faster to show up accountable to myself, my students, my clients, my friends and my community.

Honored Body has gift certificates for specific services or a dollar amount available online for the those last minute gifters!

Services like Human Design Readings are a great way to gift a long distance friend an online session that sets them up for success in the new year, while CranioSacral Therapy and Restorative Bodywork are great for the PDX local who would benefit from reconnecting with their body after a long year.

Reposting these slides as a reminder that you can choose how you respond to the hustle and bustle of the season. Slow and intentional living doesn’t have to be costly. It is small, conscious choices to find harmony in the moment.

Did you know you might be able to use your insurance benefits to cover massage or CranioSacral therapy?

For what folks are paying for health insurance, I’m adamant that they should get the full use of their benefits and I’m no stranger to the system. Use those bennies before the end of the year!

Call your insurance provider to check your eligibility and benefits, you might be surprised to learn what’s covered.

Honored Body currently accepts Regence BCBS, Regence Administrators, *some* other BCBS groups, and Providence Health Plans, as well as motor vehicle accident claims that include referrals for massage therapy.

If you know your benefits and would like to use them, feel free to book a Medical Massage at honoredbody.com

“This is a moon about setting it right.

That call to rise you were experiencing most intensely a couple of weeks ago, if not for some time now—well my dear, there’s no going back now. You can scuff your feet on the threshold as long as you want, but what you’ve come from is already fading into the distance. There is nothing behind you that you can go back to, only the skills and tools and wisdom you’ve brought with you will be strong enough to build and reinforce your new foundation. Do not try to salvage during this lunation, but open yourself to the immense possibility that comes from starting. “
