Why this forum matters
In August 2026, the Multnomah County Commission voted to delay the tax increase that funds Preschool for All. A program Multnomah County voters passed in 2020 to provide free, high-quality, culturally responsive, and inclusive preschool for every 3- and 4-year-old in the county.

The people we elect this November, including the next Multnomah County Chair and the next Multnomah County Commissioner for District 2, will decide whether this program keeps its promise to every Multnomah County family, or whether it gets defunded, delayed again, or quietly shrunk until it doesn’t deliver what voters approved.

This summer, Rigler hosted both Rigler and Scott School students in the garden and had a thriving garden program. Students weeded, watered, planted, and tended to this space with so much care. So far this harvest season, we have been able to host 4 harvest events in this space where we pick tomatoes, tomatilloes, herbs, chard, grapes, melons, sunflowers and more, to bring home to eat.

By the end of the harvest season last fall, we had 15 families regularly picking produce to bring home. Any food not taken by volunteers is distributed to families or brought to a free food pantry in the neighborhood.

Este verano, Rigler recibió estudiantes de la escuela Rigler y Scott en su jardín y tuvo un programa floreciente de jardinería. Los estudiantes desmalezaron, regaron, sembraron y cuidaron este espacio con alma y amor. Hasta ahora, en esta temporada de cosecha, pudimos organizar 4 eventos de cosecha en este lugar donde recolectamos tomates, tomatillos, hierbas, acelgas, uvas, melones, girasoles y más para llevar a casa y comer.

Al final de la temporada de cosecha del otoño pasado, teníamos 15 familias que recogían regularmente verduras para llevar a casa. Cualquier comida no recogida por los voluntarios se distribuye a las familias o se lleva a una despensa de alimentos gratuita en el vecindario.
