Under the beautiful evening lights at Mahabodhi Temple, during Losar and the Fourteen Days of Miracles, Venerable Sarah Thresher will so kindly return to Root for the fourth consecutive year to lead the Losar Prayer Festival. We are deeply grateful to Venerable for continually championing the prayers which create the causes for the swift return and unmistaken recognition of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche: the sublime manifestation of Wisdom and Bodhicitta.

Будда Медицины произнёс много молитв о том, чтобы любой, кто повторяет его имя или мантру, освободился от бед и обрёл покой и счастье. После достижения просветления у будды возникает множество качеств, включая десять сил, одна из которых – сила молитвы. Как только обретена сила молитвы, имя и мантра будды наполняются мощью, необходимой для осуществления задуманного буддой в те времена, когда он был бодхисаттвой. Тем самым будда способен приносить благо всем живым существам, мгновенно освобождая их от страдания и принося им счастье.

Это подобно именам Тридцати пяти Будд. Если мы произнесём одно из этих имён всего один раз, то очистим множество кальп неблагой кармы. В прошлом, когда Тридцать пять Будд породили бодхичитту и стали бодхисаттвами, они вознамерились, в частности, помогать живым существам, позволяя им очищать неблагую карму. Они молились о том, чтобы их имена имели силу очищать множество кальп неблагой кармы живых существ. Позже они достигли просветления и обрели силу молитвы. Именно поэтому в их именах заключена такая мощь. Произнося одно имя один раз, мы можем очистить множество кальп неблагой кармы.

Например, произнесение имени Гуру Будды Шакьямуни один раз обладает силой очистить 80 000 кальп неблагой кармы, а в некоторых текстах упоминается даже большее их число. Лама Атиша объяснял, что именно поэтому в произнесении имён Тридцати пяти Будд заключена такая мощь».

Merry Colony met the Dharma in Santa Cruz in 1979 and ordained the following year at Kopan Monastery. She served as Lama Yeshe’s secretary from 1981 to 1982, primarily organizing accommodations and teaching facilities for the first Enlightened Experience Celebration (EEC1). She later directed Dorje Pamo Monastery in France, where the nuns elected her as nunnery director before she disrobed.

Merry went on to serve as co-director and then director of the Maitreya Project (1992–1995), organized the 1998 long life puja for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and directed the Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo Translator Program (LRZTP) from 1998 to 2000. She spent twelve years as Director of FPMT Education Services, followed by roles managing Buddha Amitabha Pureland’s development (2014–2016) and directing Milarepa Center in Vermont (2016–2018). Since 2018, she has been living in Colorado with her partner, Harry Sutton, where she completed a three year retreat and continues trying to comprehend the vast Nalanda tradition of her teachers.

For senior Tibetan refugees living in exile, elderly homes are more than places of shelter – they are sanctuaries of respect, protection, and kindness in the final chapters of life. Many elders have no family backing and live with chronic illness, limited mobility, or advanced age, relying entirely on the compassion and commitment of their communities and benefactors.

Since 2016, FPMT’s Social Services Fund (SSF) has been providing essential, sustained help to Tibetan elder refugees across India, ensuring access to food, medical assistance, safe housing, and daily assistance. In 2026, this commitment continued with grants provided to eight elder homes, addressing both annual running expenses and critical infrastructure and repair needs. Contributions were also made to two additional projects in Tibetan settlements focused on the care and well-being of elders. This report highlights the positive impact of the 2026 grants, offering much to rejoice in through these compassionate activities.
