MUNA (MUNA) | Pioneer Courthouse Square | 8/7/26

Happy Square Season, qu**rs! Kicked off my long, busy season in Portland’s Living Room last night with a beautiful gay blowout starring MUNA. What a goddamn blast, and incredibly fun to shoot. Thanks to True West as always, and thanks to my beloved Becky Harang for going to this show with me 🔥

Happy , Portland! Letting the cat out of the bag: I was incredibly honored to be asked to do Q&As at Lucky Barn?! Bonkers. I’ll be talking to Argentinian one-man band Rumbo Tumba (Friday at 6pm) and PDX folk-rockers T H E T A K E S (Saturday at noon) in between songs.

If you’d like to see me doing my absolute best and trying not to throw up, come join us in the lil’ barn!

Evanescence (Evanescence) | Cascades Amphitheater | 7/22/26

What about the voice of Amy Lee? How did it get so high? I wondered if she talks like an ordinary goth - so I went to see her, and she does!

Had a blast seeing Evanescence out at Cascades Amphitheater, beset on all sides by forces of nature: fire in front of me, lightning behind, and the irrepressible voice of Lee all around me, as strong as it was when Bring Me to Life came out. Enjoy these photos of their extremely extra (pyro! confetti! hydraulic drum lifts!) show!

Pavement (pavement) | Revolution Hall | 7/18/26

Saw Pavement in my neighborhood at a “tiny” club and I feel like I went to heaven. I wasn’t in the photo pit but I got some shots from the barricade all the same, so now y’all have to look at them.

Never stop, boys, please never stop.

Have a Nice Life (Have a Nice Life) | Wonder Ballroom | 7/10/26

Some scenes from last night’s show by cult shoegaze act Have a Nice Life, who graced Portland with their presence for the first time in seven years (and second time ever?) in support of, well, no album in particular. This band was way, way better live than I expected. The kids were going CRAZY for these songs! Can’t wait for them to come back again, if only because hearing a sold-out Wonder Ballroom’s worth of people scream-singing Bloodhail again.

TURNSTILE () | Kilby Block Party Day 1 | 5/15/26

When I was young, I got really into the hardcore variants of emo. I felt pretty alone listening to a lot of it, knowing the mass appeal just wasn’t there. Turnstile aren’t REALLY a hardcore band anymore, but their wild and reckless roots remain, and watching a 20,000+ crowd go bananas for the songs of NEVER ENOUGH and GLOW ON felt like the fulfillment of some kind of 6th grade prophecy.

This band is the real fu***ng deal, and they deserve the splendor of headlining a mini-major festival’s opening day. God bless Turnstile, and god bless their dynamite fu**in pits!!!

Hayley Williams () | Kilby Block Party Day 3 | 5/17/26

The other woman I couldn’t shoot from the pit, but I’m kinda thrilled by what I forgot that I got from her set. This set was pretty healing, actually - singing along to Kill Me, True Believer, and Mirtazapine with a big ol’ crowd was a wonderful penultimate experience for the year. Here’s hoping I can do this again in September!

Lorde () | Kilby Block Party Day 3 | 5/17/26

Nothing this year is ever going to come close to the magic of watching Lorde, at the end of a long festival weekend, in a light spring rain. Seven months ago I saw Lorde for the first time and it totally rocked my world. Seeing her again felt so cathartic, and even a couple of sh*tty crowd interactions couldn’t stifle this experience.

I didn’t get to shoot from the barricade, but I kinda love how all of these turned out so I don’t care. Even if I did, dancing by B-stage and scream-singing Ribs made it so I can’t care.

GWAR () at | 4/14/26

I’ve never felt more unsafe in a photo pit than at a Gwar show - not because of the other photographers, but because my camera isn’t blood-proof. Luckily, I kept my distance from the blood cannons wielded by these scumdogs and got a few cool shots to prove it.

Not pictured: the beheading of Kristi Noem, the ICE agent being chopped in half, or the disemboweling of the current sh****ad President. Gwar has it all, AND a cover of Pink Pony Club. There’s no other experience like it.

The Format () at Moore Theatre | 4/13/26

When your favorite emo band plays every state on the west coast except for your own, you have to chase them down whether you like it or not. I took a 9am bus up to Seattle just to see these boys again, and then immediately hopped on a bus home. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

I hope this band plays together for a million more shows. I just hope one of them is in Portland!
