👟 Join us during AIGA Portland's Design Month for a color hunt photography walk through downtown Portland on Sunday, October 11 from 3-5pm starting at Pioneer Square!

As part of Design Month, let's take a walk through downtown Portland with new eyes and a camera! Take a break, close the computer, stretch your legs and look for inspiration in the world around us. Any camera will do...phone, Digital, manual, Polaroid, etc. 📷

🖍️ We'll meet at Pioneer Square and assign a color to participants and then walk through town as a group or on your own, meeting up at the end to compare our favorite shots, socialize and get instructions to share your work with the AIGA Portland Instagram.

Mural art is a very active and alive urban element that defines Portland and provides identity to many other cities. They can completely change the tone of a space and give a whole new personality to an urban landscape. Local Portland muralists, Ana Honsowetz and Julia Alexis Hunkler and Tiffany Conklin of Portland Street Art Alliance, will convene for a panel discussion, facilitated by Christian Tellez, about the design process and what goes into designing and executing a mural from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Heaven Must Be Near brings together the work of Momo Gordon and Erasto Reyes-Silva. Two artists working in search of a connection with their material choices, channeled through their respective fields of drawing and sculpture. The works of each artist are created with a transcendent interpretation of a destination they're reaching for. A connection that has served as an intimate process of discovery, allowing the artists to get near to what they consider to be their own heaven. For Gordon, that heaven is home — landscapes drawn anew after finding the world outside a hostile place. For Reyes-Silva, it is memory, held onto and shaped in clay.

Momo Gordon is a self-taught artist focused on the emotional landscape. Based in Portland, Oregon, working primarily with graphite and handmade paper, their work explores sentient spaces, hostile architecture, and anthropomorphized objects. In sequential works or standalone pieces, characters often have four walls.

Erasto Reyes-Silva is a Los Angeles-based artist whose current work explores the lingering presence of childhood memories connected to the romance and adventure of being in Mexico. Through sculpture, he recontextualizes these fragmented memories as a way of understanding how they continue to shape what he sees, feels, and carries into the present. Working with suggestive forms and minimal detail, Reyes-Silva allows intuition and play to guide the clay, while underglaze and glaze become tools for exploring color, depth, and the emotional space between memory and experience, continuing an ongoing exploration of how these recollections evolve into a personal visual language.

🌟 Paper, Fold & Finish: A Hands-On Workshop for Paper Nerds 🌟

Join us on Thursday, October 8th at the WCP Solutions Design Center in NE Portland from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM! We’ll kick things off with coffee and pastries before diving into a hands-on, paper-inspired workshop. Participants will learn about different folding and binding techniques before creating a custom saddle-stitched booklet to take home. All creatives are welcome!
