As a child, 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐤𝐞𝐫 took apart clocks to understand how they worked. Decades later, the same curiosity led him to challenge how cancer itself could be treated—helping pave the way for 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐛 and the era of targeted therapy.

Twenty-five years after one of oncology’s defining breakthroughs, Dr. Druker reflects on the curiosity, setbacks, and patients who shaped a discovery that transformed the lives of people with chronic myeloid leukaemia.

It’s a reminder that behind every breakthrough is not only great science, but the people courageous enough to question what everyone else accepts.

A team at OHSU became the first in Oregon to implant a new type of radioactive tile roughly the size of a postage stamp to improve the outcome for patients with brain tumors.

“It’s a way of delivering radiation immediately after surgery and increases the effectiveness of surgeries to remove these tumors in many cases,” said Dr. Stephen Bowden:
