Yes, there are actual rocks involved. We’re cleaning up the riverside at Duckworth Dock and we want you there.

We run Beach Brigade because people protect what they love, and it’s a lot easier to love a river once you’ve put your own hands on it. Regular Portlanders turn river-edge spaces into community gems, and nobody needs experience to join in. Many hands make light work.

That’s former Mayor Charlie Hales, back in 2017, helping us unrock this bowl.

Long before this redesign competition, HAP volunteers spent a full day hauling rip-rap rocks off the Tom McCall Waterfront shoreline and moving them back to the bank, by hand, to start building a real beach right in downtown Portland. We called it UnRock the Bowl, and it’s the same riverlution we’re still fighting for, mayors included.

Now the city is picking a team to redesign this whole park, and we want Portlanders in the room. Meet the three design teams, see their work, and tell them what you want this space to be.

Free event, fun activity to share your hopes, seated program starts at 7pm. ASL and Spanish interpretation on site. Wednesday, September 23, 5:30-8pm at The Mark Building.

Someday we want Splashdowns on both sides of this river at the same time. This is how we get there.

Come hang with us at Skylab this Saturday. It’s a really beautiful space that makes it worth the price of admission alone. There’s a great silent auction with some unique and fun items to bid on, and three bands playing just for us. This Saturday, 6 to 10pm. Tickets in bio.

That’s not the river. That’s a quarry, cutting rock headed for Audrey McCall Beach.

We’re two phases into a four phase rebuild of the space under the Hawthorne Bridge. New mural, fencing, bike racks, and this rock going in where a chain link fence has sat for over a decade. Metro’s Nature in Neighborhoods grant is helping fund it.

Grants don’t cover everything though. Down By The River, our fundraiser, is next Saturday, September 12 at Skylab Architecture. It’s what keeps phase 3 and phase 4 moving once this grant runs out.

Tickets are $75, and features an incredible scene with 3 bands and a whole bunch of river lovers. BONUS: IT’s for a great cause and a great organization. See you there!
