In worshiping with us, you not only unite with brothers and sisters in Portland, but you are also in spiritual communion with a progressive, inclusive worldwide movement of more than 222 churches in 37 countries around the world. We are a Christian congregation that affirms those who seek God in a variety of ways. We encourage spiritual growth through worship, prayer, learning and service. Though our individual theological beliefs differ widely, our mutual commitment to love, justice and spiritual living gives us a unifying bond. We are a people who have grown up in a variety of religious traditions — or no religious tradition. We have experienced spiritual life in this community and invite you to join us as we grow together, contribute to each other’s spiritual journeys, and offer our time and talents to serve our community. What does it actually mean to live the gospel together?
In this week’s sermon, Side by Side, Dylan Patterson-Sims explores what it means to be a community that is Fun. Friendly. Felt. And Fruitful.
Because being fruitful doesn’t mean being perfect. And unity doesn’t mean sameness.
We don’t all have to believe the same things. We don’t all have to see everything the same way. But we can still belong to one another—and we can still choose to walk together.
Sometimes being side by side means celebrating together.
Sometimes it means carrying one another.
And sometimes it simply means staying in the conversation when things get hard.
Maybe revival isn't only what happens in worship.
Maybe revival is what happens because of worship.
What grows in us when we encounter God—and what does somebody else experience because of it?
“Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
And then…
“Striving side by side.”

God’s Victory over Human Judgement 🙏🏳️🌈
What happens when we celebrate God’s victory over oppression—but still allow human judgment to divide us?
In this powerful sermon, Charles Donald connects the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Exodus with Paul’s call in Romans 14 to stop judging one another over our differences.
Charles challenges us to look honestly at the divisions we see in the church and in our world today—including the ways LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and others continue to face rejection and exclusion.
His message is both a celebration and a challenge:
We are called to work for equality, stand for justice, protect freedom, welcome the stranger, and remember that every person is created in God’s image.
God’s victory is not about proving who is right.
It is about bringing God’s people together.

Prayer of Remembrance for September 11th

Loving God, Creator of all,
We bring you the physical, emotional, and spiritual pain
Of all those impacted by the events of 9/11.
We pray for healing.
We bring you the lives lost,
The lives torn apart, and the hearts broken.
We pray for healing.
We bring you those who saved lives,
Tended the injured, comforted, and gave practical help
In the hours, days, and months afterwards.
We give thanks for courage and mercy.
Loving God, Creator of all,
May we each do our part to work for peace,
Build communities of care, and strive for justice,
Wherever we are in the world.
Amen.

What do you owe?
Debt usually sounds like something we want to escape. But what if there’s one debt we’re meant to keep paying?

Fifty-eight years ago, Rev. Troy Perry had a dream and a vision. A vision of a church where all people could experience God’s love and be welcomed just as they are. Today, that vision has grown into a global movement, sharing God’s inclusive love and working for social justice around the world.
For 58 years, Fellowship Sunday has celebrated the ministry we share as Metropolitan Community Churches. It is one of our most important opportunities each year to come together in generosity, celebrate all that we have accomplished, and invest in the future of MCC.
This year, our Fellowship Sunday Offering will support MCC Flourish Leadership Development by helping develop, support, and sustain the clergy and lay leaders who strengthen our churches and carry MCC’s mission forward.

🎭 REMOVE THE MASK
What if the first mask we need to remove is the one we hold up to ourselves?
In this week’s message, Cory Madey explores Romans 12:9–21 and what it means to live with sincere love—love without hypocrisy, pretense, or the masks we sometimes wear.
Cory challenges us to pay attention to the thoughts we carry, the habits we’re trying to change, and the ways our community can encourage and hold us accountable. And when the world feels overwhelming, we’re reminded that we don’t have to carry anger, judgment, or hatred with us.

There will always be pressure to bend, stay quiet, fit in, or give up. But Mason challenges us to remember who we are first: children of God.
When life gets hard, when people push back, when fear tells us to quit—don’t back down. Stand firm. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep holding on to God.
