Thirty years is a major milestone. It represents three decades of artists, learners, educators, families, and community members coming together to create, learn, explore, and imagine what’s possible.

For Caldera, 30 years is also about legacy. The people, creative practices, relationships, and memories that continue to shape who we are and where we’re headed.

In just one month, we’ll gather at beautiful Blue Lake to celebrate that legacy together. Come experience art, music, hands-on making, photography, nature, food, and more

All in the spirit of community and creativity.

Creativity can start with a paintbrush, a camera, a drum, or simply an idea. What it opens up can be much bigger.

This National Arts in Education Week, we’re joining and communities across the country around one belief: Every Student, Every Community.

At Caldera, we see what can happen when young people have space to create, take risks, find their voice, build confidence, and connect with others.

Every young person deserves access to those opportunities. Keeping them accessible takes continued investment and people willing to speak up.

Some Hearth Festival experiences have a way of bringing people together almost instantly.

African Drumming with Mr. Caton and Soul Deep is one of them.

This returning Hearth Festival favorite invites participants to gather in a circle, learn rhythms, and make music together alongside Caldera Elders and African Drumming Teaching Artists.

It’s hands-on, communal, and an experience people continue to come back to.

One of last year’s most-loved Hearth Festival experiences is back.

Canoe Photography returns to Blue Lake.

Get out on the water, take in the landscape, and experience Blue Lake from a different perspective as you explore photography from the canoe.

Whether you love taking photos or you’re simply curious to try something new, this is a chance to slow down, look a little closer, and see what catches your eye.

And this is just one of the experiences waiting for you at Hearth Festival.

Volunteers needed for Caldera Hearth Festival 2026!

We’re getting ready for our fifth annual Hearth Festival, a free, family-friendly celebration of creativity, community, and connection. We’d love your help bringing the day to life.

Join us Saturday, October 17, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Caldera in Sisters, Oregon. Volunteers can help with event setup and breakdown, guest check-in, teaching artist activities, parking, and more.

Volunteer Shifts:
• Setup & Event: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
• Event Support: 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Event & Teardown: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. *Greatest Need
• All Day, with breaks provided: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers must be 16 or older and available for a pre-event Zoom training.

Please Note: Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from Sisters, as well as lodging if an overnight stay is needed.

We’re excited to welcome our newest board members, Triston Dallas (Caldera name: Cipher) and Todd Khozein (Caldera name: Zhobin), to Caldera’s Board of Directors.

Caldera’s Board of Directors is a dedicated group of mission-driven volunteers who bring their experience, perspective, and shared belief in the explosive power of creativity to this work.

For Triston Dallas (Cipher), Senior Counsel at The Standard, joining the board is a full-circle moment. Triston spent many summers at Caldera as a young person in the early days and credits those experiences with helping shape who he is today. Now, he returns with a desire to amplify Caldera’s work and open doors for the next generation.

Todd Khozein (Zhobin), Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SecondMuse, has spent his career working alongside communities to build economies centered on social and environmental impact. He joins Caldera with a belief that art and creativity aren’t something on the side. They’re integral to how we imagine and build a different world.

As Caldera marks 30 years, we’re grateful to welcome Triston and Todd to the board and to this next chapter of the work.

One month remains to apply for Caldera's Fee-Based Artist Residency (FAiR).

Open to U.S.-based creatives, ecologists, and scientists in any discipline, FAiR offers dedicated time and space to step away from everyday routines and focus on your work at Caldera's Arts Center near Sisters, Oregon.

Applicants at any stage of their careers are welcome.

Applications close September 30, 2026.

It’s hard to believe another Summer Program has come to an end.

Over the past several weeks, learners created, explored, spent time on the land, tried new things, and built relationships that made each session its own.

None of it happens without the people behind it. Thank you to our learners, families, teaching artists, mentors, seasonal staff, year-round team, and the entire Caldera community who gave, shared, and showed up to make this summer possible.

We’re grateful for the season we shared, and already missing it.

Though we made the difficult decision to cancel Immersion 2 due to the nearby wildfires, we're incredibly grateful to our families and staff for helping every learner get home safely. We hope everyone in our community is staying safe.

We're holding onto the joy of Immersion I, filled with creativity, connection, adventure, and moments we'll always remember. Thank you to everyone who made it special.
