We have an announcement!!

After more than a year of renovations, Hope House is ready to welcome our new residents, staff, and clients! We are thrilled to return to a safe, healthy, and welcoming space.

What hasn’t changed is our commitment to providing free, accessible services to people seeking asylum in our community.

As part of our 6 week Summer English Program, students, staff, and clients were invited to take part in a few fun and festive Experiential Learning Projects (ELPs) this summer! These cultural outings allow our English students to take their education outside of their remote classrooms to interact with the larger Southern Maine community, and engage in "real world" English conversation.

A huge thanks to MaineHealth for providing tickets to a sold-out Portland Hearts of Pine soccer match in July. The opportunity to attend such a beloved international pastime was an incredibly joyous experience.

A special thanks to Theresa McCarthy, one of our longtime lead volunteer English instructors, who organized a trip to the Portland Farmers' Market in August. The dedication, creativity, and attentiveness of our entirely volunteer teaching team is what makes HHELP such a success!

We are honored that the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine has chosen Hope Acts as a co-recipient of their 2026 Gerda Haas Award for Excellence in Human Rights Education and Leadership, the Center’s highest honor.

Madeleine Saucier, our Executive Director, is accompanied by three other phenomenal women as award recipients – Sue Roche of the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project, Mufalo Chitam, of the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, and Claudette Ndayininahaze of In Her Presence.

All are recognized for their leadership in advancing human dignity, strengthening communities, and expanding opportunities for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers throughout Maine.

Hi! I’m Emma, and I’ve been Hope Acts’ communications intern this summer. This week, I had the opportunity to present my summer work at USM, where I’m a senior marketing major.

Hope Acts has given me the opportunity to dive into the nonprofit world over the past few months—from helping promote Celebrating Home to crafting email newsletters for our amazing supporters (and lots more in between!).

It’s been an incredible summer, and I’m honored to continue this important work throughout the fall. ❤️

Reports of increased ICE arrests are impacting immigrant communities across Maine, including people close to Hope Acts.

Through this uncertainty, Hope Acts remains here — keeping our doors open, our services free, and our support accessible to those who need us.

Our clients persevere. And so do we. ❤️
