Harvest season has begun! Brought in some gorgeous veg for Rubinette Produce this week 💚 including some stunnin celery, celeriac, collards, chard and kale. We’ll have all this and so much more Montavilla Farmers Market in just a few weeks, starting October 3 - see you then!

after we harvest our onions and shallots from the field, we lay them out on stacked pallet tables to cure for about 6 weeks before cutting them into bins for storage to be cleaned and brought to market all season long! 💚

17 years of Garlic harvest and we have another for the books! 🧄💚

The buckwheat is getting mowed down and turned into beds this week and we are so sad to see it go! It is one our favorite cover crops to grow and the pollinators love it. (last video shows all the bees in one of the fields) It is almost time to plant all the brassicas and chicories for the fall. Here we go summer planting season!

Happy solstice! We have been loving the long, beautiful days lately. The Brussels sprouts are in the ground, the storage crops are coming along nicely and we are starting to seed all of our field winter crops this week!

People often ask us what we do in the summer since we are a fall/winter focused farm. It’s a fair question! To harvest food in the fall and winter, the process starts in early spring and is a full year commitment. We spend the spring and summers prepping beds, seeding, planting, and caring for the crops. In addition to all this fun, July-October is our bulk harvest season for all storage crops. Some veggies (like leeks for example) we seed in March and harvest until the following March. Winter farming is a long game!
