I was trying to remember what year this was and finally had to Google it. Thank heavens for Google, because apparently my memory has left the building.
2015.
Simply Complicated Design was a finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made competition. I remember the excitement, the waiting, the checking, the hoping… and how amazing it was to see comments coming in from people around the world about the pieces. People I’d never met, in places I’d never been, were seeing them and responding to them. That was pretty incredible.
And, of course, there was the possibility of Shawn and me heading off to New York for the Martha Stewart party.
Alas…. a finalist I remained. 😂
No New York. No Martha. No party. 🗽👱‍♀️🎉😕
But for a while there, MAYBE was pretty damn exciting.

**Lynette will be receiving this piece soon!

A perfectly imperfect little auction.**

I love this vase, but it has one tiny firing fracture near the rim. It’s stable and won’t continue to fracture, but it means I cant sell the piece at full price…. and I refuse to put a sad little discount sticker on it like a dented toaster.

So instead of deciding what a “second” is worth, I thought I’d let you decide. 7” x 2”

Bid in the comments. Highest bid by **10 AM tomorrow** gets it!

Shipping + handling will be added, OR if you’re local, come pick it up and I’ll give you the nickel tour.

— Tiny flaw included at no additional charge.

Throwing it way back... this was one of my first pieces.
I remember loving the challenge of making these delicate forms. I also remember absolutely nothing about why I kept adding little clay balls everywhere.
Maybe they were decorative.
Maybe they were punctuation.
Maybe I just liked making ✨tiny✨ spheres.
The mystery lives on 🧐

This will be on display/for sale at Trail's End Art Association in Gearhart August 1-29. Take yourself to the coast and take a gander at Oregon artist’s work at the 75th annual show.

I was asked to make incense burners, but I knew I didn't want to make the traditional long tray. I mentioned it to someone whose mind immediately went in about twelve different directions with what an incense burner *could* be. That little burst of ideas got me thinking differently- and this is where I ended up. A bit architectural, a bit industrial, slightly overbuilt, and absolutely nothing like a traditional incense burner.

** Update- won 2nd place!
I have two pieces on display/for sale from August 1-29th. Judging and awards August 1st- squeee. I’ll be there the 1st for awards and opening. If you haven’t been to Gearhart it is a lovely town. A great bakery at the main intersection and a McMenamin’s nearby with a wonderful patio and just down the road is Seaside and Cannon Beach. Straight shot out Hwy26 for a great day. I also delivered pieces for Laura L Blackwell, Joan Youngberg and Linda Sprau.
