💙 #MoreThanJustAStore #90YearsOfGood We help people with and without barriers – including disability, food or housing insecurity, mental illness, domestic violence, addiction and more – find meaningful employment and reach personal stability. Goodwill NNE revenue helps fund our workforce services, which support more than 10,000 people each year. This includes job training and career placements and providing jobs directly through our retail stores. Our stores sell affordable goods donated by members of communities across our three-state service area. In addition to providing flexible, stable jobs, our stores divert 50+ million pounds of donated goods from landfills annually in Maine, New Hampshire and northern Vermont. Our more than 90 years of providing workforce services to more than a million individuals has shown us – that for many people – getting and keeping a good job requires much more than a well-written resume. Barriers to successful employment – including housing insecurity, mental illness, domestic violence, and addiction – can all lower aspirations and interfere with success. We work with job seekers to identify what a good job would be for them, not only in terms of salary, but also in terms of personal satisfaction and pride. In some cases, we need to start by helping our clients identify any barriers that need to be removed before finding the “right” job is realistic. For job seekers with multiple barriers, we use a team approach that combines life navigation provided by a counselor with the expertise of a career advisor who focuses on skills assessment, career exploration and training (as needed). Together, the team helps their clients remove barriers to successful employment so they can build a sustainable future. This wraparound model addresses the root causes of our clients' past unsuccessful employment and helps to move them into personal stability. Meet Payton Rotta, an employee at our Ellsworth store who helps make every donation count while creating a welcoming experience for community members who choose to give their items a second life.
By accepting and sorting donations, Payton plays an important role in turning donated goods into opportunities that support Goodwill Northern New England's mission and help strengthen communities across northern New England.
What motivates him most? Knowing that his work has a purpose and seeing the positive impact it has on others every day.
"Goodwill doesn't feel like any other job I've had. Everything I do here has purpose. I go home every day feeling really good about the impact I am having and the relationships I'm building here."
For Payton, the opportunity to make a difference while building meaningful relationships with coworkers and community members makes his work especially rewarding. Every donation he receives is part of something bigger, helping support programs and services that change lives throughout the region.
Payton is proud to be part of a team that works together to create positive change while serving the Ellsworth community.
It's the combination of meaningful work, strong relationships, and a mission-driven environment that makes Goodwill unlike any other place he's worked.

Through Goodwill Northern New England's AmeriCorps VISTA Partnership, individuals have the opportunity to build professional skills while helping nonprofit organizations strengthen their communities. For Inti, a Development Associate at Nashua PAL, that experience helped her discover a deeper sense of purpose.
In her role, Inti supports projects that advance Nashua PAL's mission through marketing, communications, fundraising, and community outreach. Along the way, she's gained valuable experience, built meaningful connections, and seen firsthand the impact her work can have on young people and families.
"It's helping people that really brings a lot of joy to me," Inti says.
For Inti, service has been about more than professional growth. Through her AmeriCorps VISTA service, she's developed new skills, grown her confidence, and discovered a passion for helping others succeed.
"The Goodwill Northern New England AmeriCorps program helped me find my purpose," she says.
